5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful film and space music
Michael Stearn's compilation of IMAX film scores and other pieces is a harmonious masterpiece that has so much to offer. His music is rich in ambient themes that are both haunting and powerful. He starts his cd with a track that sounds as if it could have been a part of the film 2001; he uses a chanting choir which eventually extends into a powerful theme. His Baraka...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not near as good as his others
One of the reviews inspired me to buy this cd and I only own two of his cds :"Lyra" and "Sorcerer" which are way better than this cd. One of the songs on this cd "Return" is done live but it is already on the Lyra cd and this is a ten minute song song kind of a waste if you already have the Lyra cd. Purchase the other two cds I mentioned before you buy this one. I...

His Baraka theme is equally impressive, as is his Paha Sapa theme. My personal favorites, however, lie at the end of the cd, where he has included three beautiful songs from the film CHRONOS. The CHRONOS soundtrack has been long sought after, for it is out of print. The Chronos main theme is simply beauty itself. I reccomend this cd for anyone who is into beautiful ambient space/film music.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the definitive Michael Stearns collection, September 2, 1998
This review is from: Sacred Site (Audio CD)
If you have never purchased anything from Michael Stearns buy this album first. This is the tell-tale of all of his albums. In my opinion he is the modern day Mozart of ambient music. His music can provoke strong emotions when listened to. There are many perfect compositions on this album to relax and meditate to. If you are a fan of classical music or other new age artists (i.e. Vangelis, David Arkenstone, Yanni etc.) buy this album. Some of the best ambient music in the world has been written buy Mr. Stearns. Many have recognized his compositons in IMAX theaters. This collection contains such work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than my other Stearns' stuff..., August 3, 2001
This review is from: Sacred Site (Audio CD)
I'm very pleased with this CD. I have a number of Stearns' other projects (Thematic, Textural and Lost World) and this is by far the best. The organ selections are deeply moving and all of the cuts (except #3) touch my soul. #3 has some tribal chanting which doesn't particularly appeal to me but the instrumentals (natural and electronic) on all of the other pieces are very well done and consistent with the "sacred" theme running throughout.

I would describe this album as a "lite" dark ambient with a touch of deep space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great IMAX Musician, June 27, 1998

Michael Stearns is one of the leading IMAX composers. "Sacred Site" was named after a seven minute IMAX film, "Sacred Site." It is was filmed in Ayers Rock, Australia during the apparition of Halley's Comet. The sountrack is beautiful and was not available until the release of the CD. "Sacred Site" also contains some other soundtrack work from "Chronos", "Baraka", and other films. I highly reccomend this CD for lovers of Space Music

Michael Stearns explores global ethnic and tribal music on a subliminal electronic scale. This CD covers some of his best recordings - light years ahead of his peers. Superb!

Travelog compilation of listless new age synthorgan tracks sprinkled with indian chief warbling and birdie songs. The intent being to covey the ancient power of various sacred sites into your bedroom. The CD liner promices "eternal thread of spirit that weaves through mankind". The only spirit these dragging disconnected compositions evoke is the common spirit of sleep into your bedroom.... Oh don't forget the cricket chirps.

3.0 out of 5 stars So So Stearns, Better than Average Ambient, July 20, 2000

Funny thing about Michael, his ealier works were so trippy but he began to cheeseout with some hokey ethno-influence. Thats happens when one loses their edge.

Its cheesy. I figure this appeals to New Agey people, but not as much to those who bug out to ultra ambient ambience.

The production is excellent...and its still a very good album.

I think 'Planetary Unfolding' was his ultimate 'trip'. Try that one on heavy drugs, if you can find it (the album) ...and of course some quality mind altering HEAVY DRUGS.
