Book Description

Soul Shaper October 28, 2008
In a culture where teenagers are growing up inundated with images, experiences, and media that moves and changes at the speed of light, it's no wonder many of them learn better when they're doing something--- not only listening to someone talk to them. Sacred Space provides dozens of ideas to help students engage in scripture and apply the lesson to their own lives. Whether you're looking to teach a biblical theme, the life of Christ, or a gospel passage, or even when celebrating holidays, you'll find step-by-step instructions to create the space and experience necessary to draw your students into the story. Through art, listening, writing, and multi-sensory prayer stations, your students will experience God's Word in a whole new way. This is more than a toolbox for your ministry---it's a holistic way to approach teaching and communicating God's Word. Inside you'll find everything you need (except the actual supplies!) to create experiences that can transform the way your students encounter God, and help them engage in and learn from the Bible in more meaningful ways. Includes CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sacred Space, December 8, 2010
This review is from: Sacred Space: A Hands-On Guide to Creating Multisensory Worship Experiences for Youth Ministry (Soul Shaper) (Paperback)
I have read Sacred Space through twice in the past few years. Having attended several workshops lead by Lilly and Dan over the years on creating sacred space, I was very excited to see their ideas come to print. I was not disappointed. I have used several of their ideas with my youth group and church. We have used both of the Christmas stations, Easter, Justice, among others. These experiences have transformed our youth group. Our students look forward to these times and spaces that we create around 6-8 times a year. The theology and ideas behind creating an atmosphere allowing God's Spirit to work in new ways is profound.
Besides creating specific stations, I have incorporated the use of silence, music, lighting, Scriptures, meditations, etc.. throughout our teachings and gatherings and owe these ideas to Sacred Space. A must read and must buy for anyone in ministry looking to foster a new learning environment

5.0 out of 5 stars A Necessary Resource, January 31, 2011
This review is from: Sacred Space: A Hands-On Guide to Creating Multisensory Worship Experiences for Youth Ministry (Soul Shaper) (Paperback)
I have been involved with youth ministry for 8 years now. During that time I have read through a lot of materials and books, and visited a lot of conferences. There have been very few resources that have become a staple in my ministry like Sacred Space. There have been many times that I have racked my brain trying to come up with ideas for the youth to engage God's Word in a new way, and I am blessed now to have this resource to turn to. It provides several prayer and art stations that are easy to include in the context of worship. However, perhaps the most helpful aspect is the theology and understanding behind the prayer stations. The book encourages ministers not to just use the stations they describe, but also helps them develop, create, and implement their own stations.
The result of this book is that my youth have engaged God's Word in deeper, more meaningful ways, which, of course, is the point of my ministry.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new way of service, May 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sacred Space: A Hands-On Guide to Creating Multisensory Worship Experiences for Youth Ministry (Soul Shaper) (Paperback)
We recently started Wednesday night services and each minister could do whatever they wanted. I used this book to present experiential services and it has been amazing. It's not for everyone, but those who attend have life changing experiences. For young people, experiential services are a way of embodying God's love. Enjoy!
