4.0 out of 5 stars Very good new age-native fusion
Discount the self-important blather from "professional" drummers and First Nation/Capitolized Ethnic Group people you see here and buy this CD if you enjoy better quality new age music in a native vein. This CD and its highly successful predecessor was NEVER meant to be a hard-core exploration of genuine Native American drumming, flute or chanting, though it masterfully...

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's my drums?!
New age contemporary borderline smooth electronica. Not a terrible thing in of it self, but if you are advertising drums...I expect a CD full of native DRUMS. Not flutes, not synth, not bass, but drums!

I'm sick of every single "drum" album being just more contemporary fusion. All the drums here are overshadowed by the rest of the ensemble. I also have to...

Discount the self-important blather from "professional" drummers and First Nation/Capitolized Ethnic Group people you see here and buy this CD if you enjoy better quality new age music in a native vein. This CD and its highly successful predecessor was NEVER meant to be a hard-core exploration of genuine Native American drumming, flute or chanting, though it masterfully incorporates such music alongside other simple nativist percussion. Yes, persons looking outside the world music (or new age) genres for actual Native chanting and drumming may be disappointed, but it never hurts to open your ears to new things. But if that's too hard and you crave the "real thing," may I suggest Tokeya Inajin, Dik Darnell or Carlos Nakai.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, August 27, 1999

A true masterpiece of well thoughtout music to rest the soul or make it dance. The drums are well positioned in the music score to allow other instruments to flow without competition.

Do not miss this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sacred Spirit Drums, May 23, 2000

Though only 1/8th Cherokee, this album stirs something deep within me. It's beat and melodies are soothing yet haunting. I don't tire of it as is often the case with other CD's that get played over and over. You continually hear things that were not there, or were un-noticed before. A work of art and a peak into the Sacred Realm. Hats and headresses off to the Gordons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pulses With Life, August 9, 2000

I listen to this CD when I'm getting ready for work in the morning. The pulsing drums, nature's sounds, soaring flute transport one to a more elemental world. As mentioned in other reviews, one never expects drumming to be so relaxing but you will find your body, breath and heart moving to the beat of this wonderful music.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Follow-up, and with a Spicy Twist, May 25, 2002

...
I already wrote a review, praising the sister album, Sacred Earth Drums. The two albums make great companions, with the theme carried forward beautifully into this one.

But this album has an added surprise: in a couple of places, it takes an unexpected detour into a Middle-Eastern flavor, delicately woven into the tapestry without unraveling it, and giving it a delightful twist.

I HEARD THIS CD IN A SPIRITUAL SERVICE. I ENJOYED IT! I SEARCH IN THE WEB AND I BOUGHT IT! I LISTEN IT IN THE CAR OR WHEN I WANT TO FEEL MY SELF "EARTH CENTERED". REALLY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR "DRUMS" LIKE IN LATIN MUSIC, MODERN MUSIC, IT ISNT.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SOFT/ACTIVE RELAXING MUSIC, SO THAT YOU CAN FEEL ONE WITH THE EARTH, AND YOU GET FLASH BACK OF OTHER PRIMITIVES TIMES, THIS IS FOR YOU. THAT'S MY EXPERIENCE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Disc, May 29, 2003

I began studying Native American history and I decided to buy some of their music. I started with Sacred Spirit Drums and the disc from beginning to end is simply excellent.

The drums and the flutes perfectly balance one another. This disc is for all cultures. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, November 22, 2000

This CD was playing in the background during my Reiki Master course and my attunements and it is truly wonderful. I will always keep this musical pearl close to my heart since it is truly one of my biggest favourites! I can recommend it to anyone who likes native rhythms and sounds of nature in a soft ambient musical surrounding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings me to a sense of peace, April 30, 2002

"Scared Spirit Drums," is a album you must own for the pupose of relaxation. Number 8, "Spirit of the Eagle" is my favorite, not only because you can hear the call of the eagle but because it brings me to a sense of the wonderful "mother earth" the creator has given to us. When I listen to there music, I feel that I'm deep into the woods of Northern Maine or Alaska just alone and mediating on where I am in this life. It is also good for background music. I could listen to this album all day, and I have. Besides "Spirit of the Eagle," the rest of the album is very good. If you like modern Indian music, then this is the album for you!
