Book Description

April 2, 2002
Americans are still reeling from September 11 and the global economic crisis, but humanity's pain, hurt and confusion didn't start that day. A baby dying in our arms, the specter of malnourished children, accidents, drought and devastation, these are only some of the experiences that lead people to ask: How could God let his happen?

Today, more and more people are trying to reconcile their spiritual beliefs with their experience of life. Some religious teachers say that life's pain is somehow our fault. Others shrug their shoulders and claim it's just a mystery. But it's not our fault or a mystery to Beth Green, intuitive counselor and Founder of The Stream. To her, everything falls into place when we confront our traditional conception of God. And confront she does in her brilliant new book, Sacred Union: The Healing of God.

"In the traditional view," claims Beth, "God is only good, and we are sinful, weak, in illusion or somehow at fault. That makes us shameful and God wonderful. We worship and/or fear God, and we regularly beat up on ourselves and each other for our lack of perfection."

Sacred Union: The Healing of God is unique in its concepts and form. It combines straightforward narrative with stories and magical dialogs between God and humanity, and among different aspects of God's consciousness. It explains very esoteric concepts in down-to-earth, relatable ways; it offers concrete exercises to help readers integrate the book's ideas and put these ideas into practice; and it suggests prayers that reflect humanity's new relationship with God.

More About the Author

Born in New York City in 1945, Beth Green was studying to become a classical pianist, when she became chronically ill at the age of 15. But that didn't stop her from becoming a dedicated social activist for the next 25 years, participating in a variety of movements, from anti-nuclear proliferation, to anti-Vietnam War, to the Wages for Housework Campaign, for which she was the West Coast Coordinator for four years.

Then in 1980, Beth had a spiritual awakening that revealed to her a different paradigm for healing our world. She gave up the outer revolution for the inner revolution, and she's been carrying the message ever since.
Beth has never stopped working for the betterment of our world. Despite debilitating illness, she has been an original spiritual teacher and intuitive counselor and consultant, helping hundreds of people transform themselves and their communities. She has published four books, two fiction and two nonfiction, including the Sacred Union: The Healing of God, which the Midwest Book Review called a "transcendental work with a message that reaches past all boundaries within the mind and soul." Currently, she is finishing work on Living with Reality: A Book of Wisdom, which offers a pathway for transforming ourselves and our world. She has also created 3 CDs of original music that is both mystical and emotionally rich. In addition, Beth founded The Stream spiritual community and the Spiritual Activist Movement, and she leads the LifeForce Inner Workouts, a mind-body-spirit exercise program, every day on the internet.

Beth is pictured at her home and sanctuary in Southern California, where she lives with her dogs and where she is happy to be in close proximity to many members of The Stream.

Beth is in lively discussion with her readers. There are blogs and discussion groups online at her website. For more information about Beth, or to join the conversation, go to Beth's Place, www.bethsplace.org.

5.0 out of 5 stars What could be better than Sacred Union with God?, May 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Sacred Union: The Healing of God (Paperback)
Beth Green has taken the myth that God is perfect and turned it into the truth. If we are created in God's image then God has got problems, just like we do. Beth sets us free from needing the big God, little us relationship and brings God to level ground, beside us, where God belongs. This book is not religous as it allows the reader to beleive in, as many 12-step programs put it, "God as you understand God." It has freed me to have God at my side as my friend and companion, not somewhere in the sky, far away from me when I need it most and when it needs me. Sacred Union: The Healing of God has made me see that in healing myself, I heal God, the God within me, the God without and the whole that is God.

5.0 out of 5 stars A transcendental work with a message, June 5, 2002
This review is from: Sacred Union: The Healing of God (Paperback)
Sacred Union The Healing Of God by intuitive counselor and spiritual teacher Beth Green is a profoundly spiritual treatise that challenges the commonly held notion that God is a perfect, changeless being. Instead, Sacred Union: The Healing Of God proposes an evolving, complex God that is the totality of all being. A dynamic, iconoclastic, thoughtful and thought-provoking work that seeks to reconcile the age-old dichotomy of a world filled with horrible evils and the worship of a holy supreme creator, Sacred Union: The Healing Of God is a transcendental work with a message that reaches past all boundaries within the mind and soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rethink and Reshape; Believing in God in 2002, May 23, 2002
By
Erica L Myers (La Crescenta, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sacred Union: The Healing of God (Paperback)
You haven't heard it all before. This work requires a few re-reads and probably several study times to make it yours, and even then... It makes me think and rethink and has caused a welcome reshaping of my belief system. Those of us who have grown up with the concept of a higher power have seldom given thought to our impact upon God or even broadening the way we define God. The fact that we are so disconnected from ourselves and others is a crippling condition of the human race. This book offers a way through.
