Biography

When Danzig, the band, grew out of the Misfits/Samhain lineage in 1987, Glenn Danzig went into the new project with even grander ambitions and a long-term design. His vision included a seven-album arc, each one meant to, in Glenn’s own words, “stand the test of time.” There is no doubt that Danzig, the man and the band, have done just that.
Long into the future we will all be gone, but certain… Read more in Amazon's Danzig Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Dance, Danzig, Danze., December 17, 2001
This review is from: Sacrifice (Audio CD)
Industrial? Dance? Techno? Metal? Call it what you will but I take it for what it is, an entirely new genre of dark, intelligently composed, energetic, and extremely "Danzable" music which cannot be ignored as some of the greatest compilations of sounds that ANYONE has put together. It is inconceivable and incomprehensible for an artist to completely change the genre which was comfortable and also genuinely working for the message which was being portrayed, yet, that is exactly what Danzig has done with this piece of genius which (along with its mother album BlackAciDevil) will always be remembered as the misfit album of the Misfit's former lead man, Glenn Danzig.

8. Deeper Still - ("French Eric" Cadieaux Techno mix)
9. Serpentia - (Winter mix)

These remixes are relatively subtle in their uniqueness, yet very distinctive, when compared to the original album mix (I understand the contradiction there, but you will see what I mean when you hear them). Without the exact knowledge of what processes were taken to create the different versions, it will be very, very difficult to explain them. I will do my best to explain the general feeling which I gathered from all of the mixes as a whole. BTW, The guitars were not thrown into the street on these remixes. They incorporate them quite skillfully in almost all of them. Umm...okay... These songs make me want to dance under extremely fast moving lights with extremely fast women on an extremely fast night of partying and debauchery. That should give you the feel in itself. That's it, that's all you get. Just kidding there's more.

The reason for such a short explanation is due to how extremely matchless and intricate these new mixes are. I think the realization of this has deterred others from finding a way to de-construct his efforts in an intelligent manner. In other words, I have only seen unfair and anger driven words, so far, that Danzig is not making the music that THEY want him to make. Last time I checked, this was a free country where Glenn has a mind of his own and the ability to produce what he pleases. Must I remind that Glenn Danzig's roots are PUNK? Just because it's not what was expected does not automatically make it a horrible production which does not deserve a glance.

The order of the Sacrifice remixes suggests that they were originally composed to have the feel of one long variable song (with breaks) that will keep you alert and/or moving.
My personal favorite is Serpentia - (Winter Mix). This remix is very elaborate in its execution, style, and content. I enjoy it much more than the original album mix. It alone is worth the se7en dollars I spent for the entire disk.
My least favorite is Deeper Still- ("French Eric" Cadieaux Techno mix). This remix is very echo driven, chaotic, and uncomfortable for me. If that was the intent, it worked well. Deepest on the other hand is very good. It is slower, but not trance slow, and much calmer in comparison.

I almost forgot to warn you about just how much care you should take when playing this in your expensive stereos. The reason is the INCREDIBLE bass sound that comes from most of the songs. I have detected at least three different instances of bass sound coming from my speakers simultaneously which range from extremely low to moderately low. Be careful not to blow your speakers as I did the first time I decided to play it at a ridiculously loud volume. Granted that it is the only way to listen to it, you should turn down all of your EQ and volume settings. Gradually turn them up until it is at the level which you know your speakers can handle. This warning also applies to its mother album BlackAciDevil.

For those of you who took the time to read my review, I thank you. I hope to have given you a simple idea of this very intricate peice of genius which is worth every dollar it receives.

Danzig will live forever! A true fan will see the true artist in him. If you think his skill has diminished you are wrong, his lyrics like his voice are powerful. His music will remain long after he and us have long passed.
