The mystery was well written and kept me on the edge of my seat. Every time I thought I knew "whodunit", a new clue would arise which would make me doubt my investigative abilities. Though I love an unpredictable story, I hate when writers resort to trickery to conceal the suspect. Arnold's style of writing was spot-on, revealing clues as her protagonist discovered them, making me feel as if I were part of the story in search of the murderer.
One of my favorite things about Carolyn's writing was that she described the details of the homicide and gave me a behind-the-scenes look at a detective's life without resorting to graphic or vulgar writing. Kudos, Carolyn Arnold, I look forward to reading your next novel.
Carmen DeSousa, bestselling romantic-suspense author of [...].
This is the third of Carolyn Arnolds novels that I have read and I continue to be surprised at her incredible attention to detail in the "cop" world. Starting with the interpersonal relationships between partners, then dealing with the public and media and Police Departments Administrative bungling. Arnold masterfully portrays how more often than not solving a case in the real world is an incredible act of determination and stubbornness on the part of the detectives. Although Knight is a fictional character, the situations portrayed in "Sacrifice" are painfully real. Arnold then turns her critical eye to the evidence. The techniques and markers mentioned in the novel are also true to life. The constitutional issues of plain view, and fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine all are well addressed and accurately dealt with. I continue to be pleasantly amazed at her attention to detail. If you are looking for a fascinating Police procedural that is painstakingly researched and accurately portrayed look no further than Carolyn Arnolds works. The only way it gets more real than this is to leave the genre completely. 5 Stars and then some.
The young son of a rich and influential family shows up dead and Madison Knight is called in to investigate the death. Not only is the crime considered the perfect murder, but those involved have left little evidence for her to work with and the powerful father of the victim puts his own reputation ahead of his son's murder, hampering the investigation. Knight must also battle her own Chief of Police as he suspiciously attempts to control the investigation with an agenda Madison can only guess at.
Arnold weaves an intricate story line with a cast of memorable characters and leaves the reader eager to turn the page as the corruption and greed within the Stiles community forces Knight to question everyone she knows. Could her own Chief be involved? Does her new found lover have a past which could compromise their relationship and her investigation? These questions and more only succeed in throwing more fuel on the fire that is Madison Knight. She will not be stopped.
Carolyn Arnold knows how to tell a story and create characters who are believable and charismatic. With every new book, I find myself growing more fond of Madison Knight's unwavering resolve and uncanny ability to sniff out a rat. Nothing escapes her scrutiny.
Don't miss out on the best Madison Knight novel to date. I highly recommend it!!
