Excellent short story that packs a punch. Makes you wonder how close parts are to the real story of Hannibal. I will be looking into more of her stories

Excellent insight into the history of Hannibal, how he may have seen his diety and how he may have perceived his life at the end. Great, deep story with a fair amount of metaphor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting twist on history December 3, 2012

I found this story to be a delightful and fascinating twist on the fate of Hannibal, as he tried to conquer Rome. I continue to ponder the story to this day!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and provocative December 3, 2012

I enjoyed reading this short story. It is well written and provocative. I had never considered the Punic wars from this point of view. My primary criticism is that I found the role Hoyt creates for prophecy somewhat unbelievable and ultimately unconvincing. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the glimpses of Carthaginian culture she gives the reader and I cringed at the ending. Well done.

Very engaging story with a twist. Particularly good if you like history. Ms. Hoyt can certainly pull a reader into the world she creates.

Like it very much. It's a Carthaginian-Roman story with a twist ending out of Herodotus. I'll be looking for more out of Ms. Hoyt.
