Opera IX is to black metal what Opeth is to death metal, September 29, 2011

Opera IX's first three albums, Call of the Woods, Sacro Culto and Black Opera are easily the 3 best black metal albums ever produced. The songs are epic, atmospheric, progressive, creative, and the production doesn't suck like in 99% of black metal. The atmosphere remains to feels very evil and dark without the very raw production of most black metal, however. I think Sacro Culto may be their best release, but they're all so wonderful, it's really impossible to say. Cadaveria does an excellent job on vocals, and the acoustic guitars are used to a very haunting effect on this album, which is not really utilized on their other albums. Very impressive release.
