5.0 out of 5 stars Spring Really Is The Greatest Time Of Year (5 stars), May 5, 2008
This review is from: Sad Clown, Bad Spring #12 [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
2008 is definitely THE year for Atmosphere. Aside from an astonishingly excellent free full-length album release ("Strictly Leakage"), in the last year, Slug & Ant have released four 5-song EP's, as the world witnessed one of the best marketing campaigns in underground hip-hop, as they tirelessly pumped their new full-length release "When Life Gives You Lemon's, You Pain That Sh** Gold". They were so successful, that you can't even call this duo underground anymore, as they debuted @ #5 on the Billboard Top 200 alongside artists like Mariah Carey & Ashlee Simpson.

"Sad Clown Bad Spring #12" is probably the best EP I've ever heard from Atmosphere. And to put it simply, the 5 songs on this EP trump just about every song on their newest full-length record. In fact, at this point, they are probably 5 of my favorite Atmosphere songs of all time. Slug's flow is in peak form...sounding hungry and conscious as ever. His story-telling is more on-point than usual. All the hooks & choruses are crafted with pure dopeness. Ant's beats? Some of the best I've ever heard. Standouts? All tracks.

I have never considered any Atmosphere EP or album to be 5-star material. But this EP is definitely the best 16 minutes I've heard all Spring.

4.0 out of 5 stars Too bad it's only 5 songs..., July 1, 2008
Here's what I expect from Atmosphere: beats, rhymes, alcohol, and women. This EP has it all.

Here's how I break it down:
Less One 4.5/5 - story of a dysfunctional cop
Good Daddy 4/5 - punchline is a bit much
Carry Me Home 4.5/5 - great hook, oddly enough it's the title track for Lemons
Happymess 4.5/5 - It's got beat, lyrics, relationships..it'd be the best track on the EP except for...
Not Another Day 5/5 - beat, lyrics, painting pictures with words, develops characters in a 3 minute track.

I came to the party late. My first Atmosphere disc was You Can't Imagine...The Arrival is my kind of song. This EP is the best blend between that hard style and the softer style from When Life Gives You Lemons...It's hard to keep Lemons out of this review because they were all developed together. Overall, a great EP. Personally, I'm going to set up all 4 EPs (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring) as an album on my MP3. I've got a feeling it's going to flow.

4.0 out of 5 stars I wasn't sure what to expect...., July 17, 2008
But, I was very pleasantly surprised. Not to say that I didn't think it would be good. I love Atmosphere, and have nearly all of their songs, singles, LP's, EP's, you name it and because of that, I do not know what to expect from them. There is a lot of diversity from this CD. The lyrics alone could make the CD and the beats as well can hold their own. Everything is so fluid with his rhymes and when you LISTEN to his words he creates some very vivid pictures for you. My personal favorite track on this CD is "Carry Me Home". The beat and vocal sample were cut from "Rivers of My Fathers" by Gil Scott-Heron, which by the way is also an amazing song. Back to the track, it's very personal to Slug. I think this is where he is at his best, relating his own stories and emotions. Anyways, solid track, from a solid CD. Buy it. You won't be disappointed.
