5.0 out of 5 stars Most violently, beautiful record ever made., July 12, 1999
This review is from: Sad & Dangerous (Audio CD)
I heard of D3 through Nick Cave, and did not hesitate in buying Sad & Dangerous when i saw it. I had no idea of what to expect. What I heard, was the most painful violin, an agressive guitar, and some weird drums. For a long time I chilled when I heard the tunes of Sad & Dangerous, especially Turk. I skipped Turk to begin with. It was too intense. It still is, but I've learnt to cope with it. The violence & beauty in a mix never heard before. Anger and sadness thrown together, so it will leave you with your eyes and mouth open wide, and a strange feeling inside.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soothing and Kaotic, December 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Sad & Dangerous (Audio CD)
I fell in love with the Dirty Three the first I heard them. This particular album along with all the others are truely wonderfull, interesting and insperational! The music is all instramental...Percussion, guitar & bass, and last but not even close to least, The VIOLIN!...which is completely soothing and beautifull, building itself into totally kaotic state. The music of the Dirty Three is original, great to listen to anytime of the day...to wake you up, relax to after work, rock out to when your cleaning the house, background music...anytime/anywhere, but especially for making love, because that's kind of a way to decribe the music...one minute your romantically kissing, caressing, etc. which slowly or suddenly turns into hot, thrashing passion! I'm pleased to be able to say that I've had the pleasure of seeing these characters live and it was superb, as well as funny. The violin player is quite a silly ol' mate. They're just three young men from Australia who've put together a whole lot of music that soothes me, makes me happy, can put me to sleep, can relax and entertain me while driving in a traffic jam, inspire me while makin' woopee, ...Hey it's just plum good, quality music worth every penny, worth every album and worth seeing live if your given the opportunity. What more could I possibly say? ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a couple of their other records and they are amazing. This one on the other hand is only for the true dirty three fan who is interested in how thier music came to be what it is today. It sound like very early recording. not very good.
