5.0 out of 5 stars a wonderful, helpful book
This book helped us explain the death of their grandpa, what was to be expected etc. Our children ages 5,8 and 10 asked for this to be read repeatedly. It helped answer questions and brought forth some very interesting observations. It truly helped in a very trying time. It was written in a very forthright manner yet in language children easily understood. It was...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good if you've lost Grandma, and believe in God...
Not nearly so useful if the person who has died is a sibling, or a parent. The book keeps telling the child to talk to their parents.... and the illustrations have a patchwork quilt cuteness that give an elderly feel to the missing soul. It does deal with anger being okay. It does say it's alright to cry. Not as helpful as I had hoped.

5.0 out of 5 stars For readers of all ages, discusses grief in realistic terms, November 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Sad Isn't Bad: A Good-Grief Guidebook for Kids Dealing with Loss (Elf-Help Books for Kids) (Paperback)
Well-crafted summary of the grief process, the book has 14 sections of two to three paragraphs that discuss the various aspects of grief, and the ways people cope with the death of loved ones. Written for a young audience, the material is valuable for all ages. While assuming the concept of life after death, this book is sensitive to differences in religious belief and practices and provides opportunities for the young reader to think, to ask questions, and to grow. The illustrations are clever and interesting to young children, they support the message in the text. An introductory message to adults who are working with children offers additional insights and ideas for working through grief.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for kids experiencing a loss!, August 28, 2004
This review is from: Sad Isn't Bad: A Good-Grief Guidebook for Kids Dealing with Loss (Elf-Help Books for Kids) (Paperback)
I had two teenage sons die within a year of each other. My surviving children, ages 5 and 8, LOVED this book. My 5 year-old wanted to take it to her first day of kindergarten, so the teacher could read it to the class. She said that she wanted them to know how she feels. Very well written! A must for any child who is grieving!

I was looking for a book for a child who had lost her mother (a single parent). The book assumes there is a parent in the child's life. It would be a good book for a traditional and religious family.

I found this book very helpful to my 7 year old when dealing with the stillborn death of his sibling. Reading it together helped us discuss certain emotions that we would not have brought up on our own. I recomend it for elementary age children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Questions?, August 9, 2005
This review is from: Sad Isn't Bad: A Good-Grief Guidebook for Kids Dealing with Loss (Elf-Help Books for Kids) (Paperback)
Sad Isn't Bad answers the questions children have when dealing with death in the immediate family. These questions were asked in some form by a three year old at the death of her Nana. I would recommend this book for parents who are dealing with the death of a loved one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, March 8, 2004

This book was helpful in explaining loss to children.
I also used a faith based video, After the Tears, A Gentle Guide to Help Children Understand Death.
Death is such a dificult subject to have to explain to children. It is helpful to have good grief resources.

This is another book that I wanted to have in the house for our 3-year-old Grandson, who'd been exposed to death in the family. It was a bit wordy for him but I found myself hoping that his mother would read it to him to allow herself to grieve. So maybe it's better for children that can read themselves.

This book would not be helpful for children of faiths other than Christianity.
