(Korean with English subtitles) This Korean box office hit features an impressive ensemble cast (Jung Woo-sung, Cha Tae-hyun, etc) and intertwines stories about love and separation as it follows a firefighter who can't find the right time to propose, a shy theme park worker who falls for an artist, an estranged mother and son, and a man seeking to regain his lost love.

"When you look at your sweetheart, you don't look with a mirror, you look with your heart."

This remarkable ode to life and love starring some of South Korea's brightest stars stands far above the more trifling similar attempts of American filmmakers who gather an ensemble cast of well-known actors and actresses, usually the soup de jour of the day, put them in a film about relationships which is meant to be both humorous and substantive, and fails to deliver on either front. Sad Movie does not. South Korean films outshine all others in drama and comedy, and when it comes to love, their ability to evoke tenderness and depth through the kind of gentle persuasion once seen in Hollywood films of the 1930's and 1940's is unequaled. For well over a decade now South Korea has literally owned a genre of film where a sense of longing for love and happiness just out of reach is so palpable it washes over the viewer as sure as if they had bathed in its waters.

Any film such as this which hopes to succeed has to have the right players, and this one certainly does. Jung Woo Sung from A Moment to Remember, Im Su-jeong from Ing and A Tale of Two Sisters, Yoem Jung An from The Old Garden, and Cha Tae-Hyun from My Sassy Girl are joined by Shin Min-a, Son Tae-Yung, and Lee Ki Woo to form the currents and eddies of this lovely and ultimately Sad Movie of the one river in which we all swim, and which sometimes brings tragedy and pain. What could have been trite, shallow, and forgettable if made elsewhere, becomes tender and memorable because it has Korea's stamp of sensitivity and understanding. All the lives here are connected in a deeper way than the tangible story line allows. It is this flowing of a river which separates this film from others of its ilk and makes it something special.

This movie was absolutely wonderful and that kept me engaged from beginning to end. The title however can be misleading because this movie isn't as simple and straight-forward as it may seem. This film explores the lives of different people and the connections between love, life, and ultimately sadness.I didn't cry but I will admit that it impacted me emotionally. I became deeply invested in the characters and shared their joy and pain.
I will admit that at times the story seemed trite and some scenes were either over dramatic or simply cheesy. But when your try to dissect an abstract emotion like this movie does, I think you need a little of that fantastical element in the story
All in all, it was a beautifully made movie with a lot of heart and soul and I would easily place this in my top 100.

Well written, well produced. Because the story follows the lives of several people, there's a little something for everyone. Although the movie title is indicative of the content, the movie keeps you guessing all the way through. If you aren't opposed to sad movies (and especially if you enjoy them) I feel that this movie was well worth the price. Superb quality, excellent acting.

Sad Movie delves into several types of relationships; from a fireman struggling to propose to his girlfriend to a mother attempting to reconnect with her young son, a young unemployed man trying to win back his love to a deaf girl with a scar on her face falling in love with a young artist. The title speaks for itself in this realistic and emotional drama.

The story in this film is great. It takes you on an emotional roller-coaster of romance, hope, and tragedy. Some moments will make you smile, while others may make you tear up; the entire film is about relationships, and the ups and downs within them. I believe you'll be able to relate to some of the characters or situations in this film, and that makes it a much more powerful film. If you're looking for a truly sad and impactful film, wait until you get to the haunting third act (final 30 minutes or so) of this film. My only complaint is that the film feels like it lost some of its potential impact because of the many characters it covers and the short runtime; in other words, you don't get to spend enough quality time with the characters and you don't get to fully know them. Other than that, the film has a great soundtrack, phenomenal acting, and a touching story.

Overall, Sad Movie is an amazing, relatable film on relationships with great acting and a sad finale. As of 4/21/13, this film is available on Netflix Streaming, a purchase is recommended for fans of the genre, a rental otherwise. If you're looking for something exclusively in the romantic genre, I recommend another amazing South Korean gem titled "A Moment to Remember".

This film has some violence and blood.

This film not only touches the heart, but your hand holding a tissue as well! Plot driven and well written throughout every minute. Eye candy for its audiences. Top notch acting from the entire cast, including the child actor. Starts off light and fluffy that keeps you laughing 3/4 of the movie and ends with a bang! Hence the title "Sad Movie" and you will see why. Not your typical Hollywood or soap opera melodrama cr**. This movie is not boring at all. Even when I watched it with my guy friends. Trust me and watch this picture with your family and friends.
