After enjoying my much-played vinyl copy of Sad Wings Of Destiny, I looked for the CD version. Not knowing the difference, I bought the Koch release. I noticed that Sad Wings was not included in the remaster series, which started with Sin After Sin. That should've been a clue, but I got the Koch CD. The sound quality was unlistenable! I have an excellent stereo system, 2-channel only, and no matter what bass adjustments I tried, the bass was so over-pronounced I couldn't stand to listen to this recording for even a minute. Whether on my car stereo or my home system, it sounded like crap. I read a very helpful review that said the German Repertoire release of Sad Wings was the one to get, so after buying the Repertoire version, I finally found a Sad Wings Of Destiny CD that is what it should have been: excellent sound quality. DO NOT get the Koch Records CD if you value good quality reproduction. Get the German Repertoire CD instead. It's a bit more money, but completely worth it. This is a must-have for any Judas Priest fan. Halford's vocals are at his best on this album, whether he's being melodic and somewhat low volume, or at the top of his lungs. His entire range is shown off, as is the early raw combo of Downing and Tipton. Whoever mixed and released the Koch POS CD should be whipped with a studded leather jacket...one of the worst-sounding CD versions of a great original album I've ever heard.

"Sad Wings of Destiny" was the second album released by Judas Priest and not only one of their best, but also one of the most influential metal albums of all time. Much has been said about the amazing vocals of Rob Halford and the killer guitar work of K.K. Downing and Glen Tipton. And while they absolutely deserve the praise, not as much credit has been given to the rhythm section of drummer Alan Moore and bassist Ian Hill. They lock in together and form the pounding, driving rhythms that went on to help define heavy metal. The song writing on this album is incredible, and the diversity is awesome. "Victim of Changes" and "Tyrant" rock, with heavy, driving guitars. "Dreamer Deceiver" is a classic metal ballad, and "Prelude" features some mood changing keyboards. Every single song on this album is amazing. If you like metal, and want to hear one of the most influential bands of all time, you can't go wrong here!

This is an album you should go out and buy. Plain and simple. Do not burn this one, buy it. Don't download the album from Apple to put into your Ipod... go buy the CD, it is crucial that you do it this way. Heres the lowdown...

In 1974 JUDAS PRIEST released their first album Rocka Rolla on an indie label, and it was sooo bad that the label made them wait two years before allowing them to record a follow up.

In 1976 they returned with this SAD WINGS OF DESTINY... an album that is soooo good that it instantly put them on a major label and grounded them for legendary status' to come.

SAD WINGS is an album that is a must own, for a lot of reasons, but mainly it is the way that this album is put together. It is hard to get it just right, and the way most of the tracks fit together with one another is absolutely crucial.. I'll get back to this, first off here are the tracks...

VICTIM OF CHANGES is two tracks in one, Whiskey Woman was a pre-Halford Priest song that is mixed up with a pre-Priest Rob Halford song to make one of the most epic of tracks.. VICTIM...

THE RIPPER.. simply amazing, one of the most important metal songs of all time.

DREAMER DECEIVER/DECEIVER.. two seperate tracks that should only be listened to as one (think of it in the way you would FLOYDS Brain Damage/Eclipse... one song)

The first songs here originally made up side two of the album, this was changed sometime in the early eighties, due to the fact that these are probably the more "powerful" songs... don't worry about this...

PRELUDE/TYRANT... so think of this as the beggining. Again two tracks that should be one, these should not be seperated in any way shape or form. This stuff is rockin', with a very cool, somewhat mysterious chorus...

This is classic Priest at it's best. Take a musical journey from the streets of London in Jack the Ripper to your death in Epitaph. Rob is at his vocal best with this album. A must have album for Priest and metal fans. Of all the albums, this is one of my favorite ones. I will probably have to buy another one to keep in my truck.
