5.0 out of 5 stars the disney apocalypse, January 24, 2006
This review is from: The Saddest Place on Earth: The Art of Camille Rose Garcia (Hardcover)
She needs no introduction if you have any knowledge of the low brow art seen. This book is worth every penny! A beautiful collection of Camille Rose Garcia's amazing paintings as well as sketches and little insights into what inspired these works. Included are selected works from her shows "The Happiest Place on Earth", "The Soft Machine", "Operation Opticon", "Ultra Violence" and more. Camille's style, expression and use of colour to create a strong sense of happy anxiety bliss are what make her a genius in my opinion. This book is very high quality and an excellent production from last gasps. I just bought it a few days ago and have already determined that I shall never part with it. It's that nice of a book!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Artist's influence on artists, February 6, 2008

This review is from: The Saddest Place on Earth: The Art of Camille Rose Garcia (Hardcover)
I bought Camille Rose Garcia's book for my girlfriend, who, like myself, also happens to be an artist. We heard about her through friends and Juxtapoz magazine. The book has great photos of her work, not to mention a hefty amount of work to study from and enjoy. There are also detailed sketches of her work prior to them becoming paintings. If you're into Low-Brow, Pop Surrealism, or anything of the like, you'll definitely enjoy her paintings/drawings.

Nightmarish and beautiful. One of the most unique and hauntingly original artists of our time. Unfortunately the text that goes along with the art sounds like a stoned 16 year old punk talking about throwing a spanner into the "Republican War Machine". I will say that it made me laugh a little.

i recently was compelled to buy this after having found the Camille Rose Garcia vinyl Lulu doll at a shop. I'm a fan of her art, but wanted to be able to show friends and family. It is a large, beautiful book. Perfect for coffee table or gift.

4.0 out of 5 stars Politically charged, socially frustrated, February 3, 2008
This review is from: The Saddest Place on Earth: The Art of Camille Rose Garcia (Hardcover)
Garcia's art deals with several maddening topics, perhaps the main inspiration being the surrounding of the Disney utopia that her crime drenched suburn neighbored. I found her art to be eclectic, emotionally endrenched, and very powerful. Lots of great work all with a forboding tone. A unique yet satisfying feast for the angered eyes of society.

4/5

This was a wonderful purchase. The quality of the illustrations are amazing and the text to explain their meaning is short but sweet. Anyone who likes this artist must own this book!

I love this book! Camille Rose Garcia is one of my favorite artists. I would highly recommend Everything That Creeps by Elizabeth McGrath.
