Great new horse lovers mystery series,
By Dawn Dowdle "Mystery Lovers Corner reviewer" (Lynchburg, VA USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Saddled with Trouble (A Horse Lover's Mystery) (Paperback)
Michaela Bancroft is a horse trainer in California. Her husband is divorcing her for a younger woman with whom he had an affair. To top it all off, Michaela finds her Uncle Lou murdered when he didn't show up for their breakfast meeting. Who could have done such a thing?
Soon Michaela is embroiled in finding the killer. Plus her aunt asks her to look into a problem with the artificial insemination program her uncle was running for horses. Michaela isn't sure who to trust any more. The more she looks into things, the more she realizes who had possible motives. Her father has gotten himself into big trouble with gambling. Michaela works to help him get out of trouble without losing the family ranch. Can she figure out who killed her uncle without putting herself in danger? I really enjoyed this book. You don't have to be a horse lover to enjoy it. It is so well written. It is a great cozy and you'll find yourself picking it back up constantly to finish it. There are so many wonderful red herrings that it will keep you guessing until the end. Terrific plot and characters really add to the reading experience. I highly recommend this book.

What do horses have to do with it?,

The horses in this book are just window dressing, which was disappointing. Early on, the author makes a big deal out of the heroine's young stud colt, and then the horse isn't mentioned again. The heroine also feeds dry bran to said stud colt after he colics - on her vet's advice. If you are not a horseperson, then I'm not going to explain the absolute stupidity of doing something like that, trust me, no one running a breeding/training facility would be that ignorant. That said, the plot was OK, but real horse knowledge seems to be lacking on the author's part. Maybe she should stick to wine-themed mysteries?

Not Much Ado About Horses,
By Mare "mystery reader" (Nebraska) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saddled with Trouble (A Horse Lover's Mystery) (Paperback)
I expected a good read with a lot of horse stuff thrown in, but was disappointed. I felt the characters weren't properly introduced either--characterization was needed before the poorly written plot. There has to be better mystery horse stories out there--this isn't one of them.

Another Winner,
By FoodiePrincess "HLJ" (New Jersey) - See all my reviews

Michele Scott is by far my favorite cozy mystery author. I discovered her wine lovers series about two years ago and was immediately drawn in by her cast of characters and clever story line. Her new Horse Lovers series is another winner for Ms. Scott. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down, don't let the equine theme discourage you from reading this book I know absolutely nothing about horses having only been riding a total of 4 times in my life and I still loved it.

A Good, Fun Horse Mystery,
By
This review is from: Saddled with Trouble (A Horse Lover's Mystery) (Paperback)
Mickey is a horse trainer. Her favorite uncle is also in the horse business. Her husband is divorcing her for a young bimbo.
While Mickey is figuring out the murder mystery, there are lots of clues and hints and twists. The mystery/plot is really good, entertaining, and clever. The horse atmosphere is also good, because there isn't too much horse fact descriptions (which would have made the book boring), but just enough to make it fun and interesting.

Twists and Turns in the Horse World,
By
This review is from: Saddled with Trouble (A Horse Lover's Mystery) (Paperback)
Michele Scott knows her stuff when it comes to horses, and this novel, the first in the Horse Lover's series, reflects that understanding of horses and those who respect and love them. Don't be put off by the idea of the "horsey set"...this is a good twist and turn mystery whose main character is bright, capable and strong enough to take care of herself. So, open a good bottle of wine, fluff up the pillows on the sofa, find the dog and cuddle up to read Scott's newest novel.

I am a fan of the Wine Lover's series by Michele Scott, so I decided to give this series a try. I was not disappointed to say the least. I thought that the characters were well rounded and their actions reflected what one may do if their reality was a mystery novel. I find that I enjoy her writing style and I have yet to figure out one of her mysteries before the protaganist does. I recommend this series. You don't have to be a horse lover or even familiar with horses, horse breeding and training to enjoy this book.

catchy story and catchy writing with a good plot, although i did figure the ending out...also most of us who read this kind of mystery are horse oriented; this book was a bit simplistic in its explanations.
