Very Good Book, November 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Saddlemaking: Lessons in Construction, Repair, and Evaluation (Paperback)
I purchased this book with the intention of building my own saddle. This book provides detailed step by step photos and explanations in the saddle building process. I admit I had to read it multiple times before attempting my saddle and I also referenced it during the construction phase. It was an invaluable resource and I recommend it to anyone who has the interest to build their own saddle as I did.

One of the best works out there for Saddle Making, April 14, 2009
This review is from: Saddlemaking: Lessons in Construction, Repair, and Evaluation (Paperback)
I own this book. It's informative, but I highly recommend that anyone that is serious about making a saddle either take a course in saddle making with Dusty Johnson or one of the other practicing saddlers, or they buy the Dusty Johnson Saddle Making DVD. I own the DVD and can honestly say that seeing is believing and with it comes understanding. You are shown how to make straps, the proper use of a round knife, and so much more.
There are a few times where you might be left scratching your head, but it's nothing that will prevent you from completing a project.
One of the best all around for Western Saddle making after the late Al and Anne Stohlman.

Good enough to be your only reference, November 21, 2010
This review is from: Saddlemaking: Lessons in Construction, Repair, and Evaluation (Paperback)
If you want to build yourself a saddle, this book is complete enough to do it all yourself. It's easy to collect books on any given interest, and I suggest this be one to start with. I referred to certain places in the book over and over while making my first saddle. Was a very helpful guide.
