4.0 out of 5 stars Fun! And educational!
This is an excellent companion to Kaplan and Saddock. I found the toxicology review particularly helpful. The questions are sometimes too detailed but very thought provoking. Good for any behavioral science/ psych course.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT Recommended for MOC exam, March 14, 2009

This review is from: Kaplan and Sadock's Study Guide and Self-Examination Review in Psychiatry (STUDY GUIDE/SELF EXAM REV/ SYNOPSIS OF PSYCHIATRY (KAPLANS)) (Paperback)
The ABPN Maintenance of Certification (MOC) exam covered adult clinical psychiatry. There was very little child psychiatry on the exam but a substantial proportion of this book is devoted to child psych. Also the exam covered virtually nothing on theoretical concepts (development, etc.) and had very little relating to the basic skills that are covered in first few chapters of this book. I read this book end-to-end and it was not the best use of my time. If you are preparing for MOC, would suggest focusing on DSM criteria, meds, substance abuse, legal issues, defense mechanisms, reproductive issues, HIV, delirium, and associated medical conditions. If you are practicing adult psychiatry full time and are up to date, you won't need to do too much preparation for this exam. The other problem with this book is it has SEVERAL mistakes and contradictions. Someone needs to go back over this carefully and correct them. It might be OK for the initial certification exam (except has very little neurology), but it is a waste of time for the MOC.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, April 14, 2009
Instead of reading the whole book of synopsis of psychiatry by Kaplan&Sadock, I read this one and did all the questions and studied all answers. I got very high scores in PRITE every year and pass written board with scores over 90%. The questions are more difficult than PRITE and written board.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting option to prepare for the exams, November 5, 2005

Together with the sinopsis of psychiatry this book is an ideal tool to acquire a good deal of knowledge and preparation for the exams (in my case the MRCPsych part 1 in UK). This will really boost your possibilities!. Good luck!

Fairly good book for residents in psychiatry who are preparing for PRITE or Boards. Almost no neurology.

You can pass the boards by doing this book and 2 to 3 years of PRITE exam.
Good book

The book came with lots and lots of highlights, notes, answers...
I still could use the book, but the initial seller review could have said all those details.

It has qyesn and answers, although the questions are not board pattern fully, they are easy understand and easy read types.
