An Erotic English Classic,

This review is from: Sadopaideia (Paperback)
I found the book to be insightful from both points of view[sadist and masochist]. It was beautifully written. The author must surely know first hand the art it takes to bring one to to such pleasure.I found it to be most stimulating.

One of the BEST Blue Mooon boks around,
By
This review is from: Sadopaideia (Paperback)
A two volume 250 page victorian tale of the experiences of Cecil Pendergast a young Oxford undergraduate who gets an education in the ways of erotic love at it's best. The alluring widow, Ms Muriel Harcourt (I've seen this name in many of the best of erotic literature through the years... it must have meant soemthing for the victorians ... ) teaches a willling and sufficiently submissive Cecil where real pleasure can be derived and for more than a fleeting moment. She certainly, and the author does complete justice, treats her encounters like a delicious meal to be enjoyed ... Although I'm definitely not into S&M this book knows where its should start and stop ... what an absolutely masterfully written piece to accomplish that .... A MUST HAVE for your library ... Dont let the title fool you it is THE BEST ... loved it!

My first D&S book,
By Rick (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sadopaideia (Paperback)
I first read this in my late teens, (17? or so) and it summed up so much the essence of what I felt that I couldn't help but enjoy it. The period setting (Victorian England) is extensively portrayed and the story continues from one erotic adventure to another, without becomming dull. I now think about the scenes with the 11 & 15 year old girls with shame (being a father) but I sure enjoyed reading them as a teenager. It is after all erotica, and overall is a great story. The story begins with a young widow 'capturing' (emotionally only, not physically) a young man and showing him the pleasures of the birch. Many Domination and Submission themes are explored, as well as some S&M. Birching is used extensively, as with most Victorian Period pieces. If the above mentioned themes interest you, it's definantly worth buying...

The Best since "The Story of O",
By
This review is from: Sadopaideia (Wordsworth Classic Erotica) (Paperback)
Hello everyone,I have to say that this is the best SM book I have ever read since the classic "Story of O". Period. And what's great about it is not just the punishment scenes. Oh, those are very well written. The best abou this book is the characters. They are so well portrayed that you actually feel that you know them. And you have one character of each kind. The dominant aunt and her companion (the narrator, Cecil), the submissive maid and in the midle of the story come two young teenangels to spend the summer with them. Two girls. One voluptuous and dazzling but shy and obedient. The other a tomboy, defiant and rebel. They both will learn a lot during their stay. Specially the first one, Gladys. I don't think I ever saw such a beautifully portrayed character in an SM novel. The way she reacts before her first punishment, the way she endures the sufferin and yet submits. It's quite a thrill. Then there is the submissive maid alway being punished for the smallest fault and accepting it with submission. Another thrill is to see the love triangle that begins to form in that house, the jealousy and the pain it causes. In the end, when the girls are totally surrendered to their hosts perversions, it's great to see the kind of games they organize ............... Like I said, it's just terrific. It was the first SM book I read after "The Story of O" and after reading many others, this one still beats all. Enjoy.

Boring, plotless, Horrible read,
By Nick Dangerous (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sadopaideia (Perennial Forbidden Classics) (Paperback)
Oh boy,
I bought this book in the hope of reading some decent erotic fiction about dominantion. Well, that's mostly the subject matter but decent?,- it ain't! The sole type of domination here is whippings which are carried out with the birch and canes. This book was first published in 1907 so the use of language is a little different to today's,- the guys member is amusingly referred to by himself as 'John Thomas'. The problem is;- while I did get complimentary wood a few times, none of the descriptions within are that hot and as such after a while the monotonous nature of the subject matter draws attention to the fact that the novel is essentially absent of plot. This makes the text read as is the author has a bizarre obsession with a mundane activity and combined with the fact that there is no core narrative drive- just one lackluster bedroom scenario after another, makes it seem as if the novel has been written by someone with mental retardation. I could not even finish it, it was that bad. One to avoid.

Even though the second half of the novel is mostly about the punishment and the seduction of two young girls (without much actual sex), "Sadopaiedia" is still an interesting erotic novel. Fans of the whipping/spanking genre will probably enjoy all the permutations explored by Cecil and the ladies. If you're looking for a lot of "regular" sex, this isn't the book for you. After the first half, where Cecil "comes into his own" as the submissive who becomes dominant, it's mostly about whipping the girls and the oral arts. The examination of the complex "harem" Cecil creates and manages makes me wonder if there's a sequel.

Pleasant Romp,

This review is from: Sadopaideia (Wordsworth Classic Erotica) (Paperback)
Cecil Pendergrast is a charming rake. The tale of his education and subsequent rise to becoming a Master in his own right is fast paced and enjoyable. Some readers might find the young ages of some of the girls distasteful but if one can keep in mind that this is a fantasy it will sit better. It is easy to get caught up in the story, eagerly turning pages to find out what misadventures will happen next, who will pay for them and what measure of punishment will be exacted. For anyone with a liking for caning stories, a proclivity for Victorian-toned novels or an active sense of justice, this book fits the bill. We get to ride along as Cecil becomes more experienced, Muriel meets her match, Juliette gets the best of both worlds and the little girls learn the true meaning of being models of decorum. A delightful story worth reading several times.
