Makes great espresso... for the first 3 months...,

This review is from: Saeco Classico Stainless Steel Espresso and Cappuccino Machine (Kitchen)
I bought this machine after reading a few positive reviews. I got mine and it worked perfectly well for 3-4 months (using bottled water, descaled once a month). First problem happened- it started to leak. I 've shipped it back under my 1 year warranty, got it back 5 weeks later. It worked for another 3 months after which it started to release steam at all times when mashine was on. I sent it back for repairs, got it back 4 weeks later ( I spent on average $2 a day on espresso :). I worked for another couple months and now it's at the point when my pump is not pumping water through coffee (like not enough pressure). My warranty has ended and I am looking for a new Espresso maker. It is not going to be SAECO. My advice is to get something with longer warranty and maybe more expensive but reliable.I got Rancilio Sylvia now for 2 years - so much happier!

Great espresso and a solid machine,
By A Customer

I've had this machine for 2.5 years and use it every day (sometimes a couple of times/day). It makes great espresso, and I have had no problems. My only complaint is that its a bit noisy. The only maintenance is de-scaling a few times per year, but I imagine all pump-driven espresso machines would need this. Ive used pods and ground espresso (usually Illy), and while the pods are expensive (around $0.50 each), I prefer using them to ground beans. The espresso from pods is as good as from the best ground beans and the cleanup is much easier. Ive previously used a steam driven espresso machine, and the quality of espresso from the Saeco is much better.

Love it -- makes a superb cup of coffee!,

I've had this model for about a year, and I love it. It is easy to use, easy to clean and makes a beautiful cup of coffee with a thick, rich crema and not a hint of bitterness. It steams milk beautifully and quickly, too. I very much enjoy using it, and would highly recommend this machine to anyone looking for a high quality machine at a mid-range price.

A family member purchased a new Saeco Classico Stainless Steel Espresso and Cappuccino Machine for us two years ago for Christmas and it has been a nightmare. After three months the machine stopped working and after several attempts to reach Saeco we received a Return Authorization Form. We sent the machine back to Saeco, at our cost, and they did not fix it properly. We then re-returned the machine to Saeco, again after receiving another return authorization form and again at our cost, and the same machine was returned to us. The Espresso machine has never really worked right and Saeco refused to send us a new one even after many telephone calls and a conversation with the supervisor.Just today, I tried to use the machine which I periodically do since it cost $400 and I was lucky today as it worked but now the inside pipes (or something) seem to have corroded and specks of black/ gold are coming out into the espresso cups.....I can honestly say that this is the worst gift we have ever received. Please do not give this machine to anyone you like!

I own the Saeco Classico in black. I've had it for about 1 and a half years and love it. Great tasting cappuccinos and espresso. It takes a little getting used to, and a little time to make, but once you get it down, its not too bad. You have to really learn and "know" the machine, as it will not work correctly if it is not hot enough, or too hot. It is worth spending a little extra time making these considering they are so expensive at Starbucks, etc. I always look forward to my morning cappuccinos!

so far, so great...,

it's been a month, but a well-used month.easy to use. good crema and esspreso flavor. now we're nearly spoiled: our own brew's better than even from Peets or from Starbucks (we'll resort to Starbucks when a Peets joint is not near). our only feeling is how long can this last...we'll keep up maintenance, by cleaning & descaling, and keep our fingers crossed.

I bought my Saeco espresso classico SS on 5/7/04 from Whole Latte Love and used it happily for 7 months. The steam wand leaked but there were no major issues until it started smoking out of the frothing wand. I tried descaling with no luck. I sent it back to Seaco for repair and they said it was my fault. They told me that I had added something other than water to the machine (which I did not). They also said it was going to cost $112 to repair the boiler unit (I paid $350 for the machine brand new). They were charging excessive rates for labor, shipping, and labor to package for shipping. I definitely would not buy Saeco again for the lack of service. They were not willing to answer questions and stopped answering calls as well. I dealt with Ryan Hedges, Melissa Niosi, and Brandi Gibson.

A definite 5 star espresso machine,

I bought a Saeco (Black chassis version) over 6 monts ago, and it turned out to be an outstanding product. I definitely recommend it. It's a great deal for around $....June 2006 update: It has been 3.5 years since I got this espresso machine. It has been very reliable. At the rate of 2 runs a day, it made more than 2,200 cups of top notch espresso. I use Lavazza coffee exclusively. The outcome is quasi perfect.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Saeco Classico Stainless Steel Espresso and Cappuccino Machine (Kitchen)
I bought this sleek espresso maker with its elegant Italian design. Unfortunately it's also Italian engineering: when I turned it on, something blew up, water was dripping out everywhere. A look into its guts made me sweat - a brittle plastic connector between pump and tubing had broken, water had squirted all over including all the electrical contacts which were right next to it and unprotected. In combination with the conducting stainless steel body this could have in fact been my strongest and final espresso. Other parts feel loose, e.g. the dial. Edges of the steel body are very sharp. I strongly discourage you from buying this item especially with this price tag. I bought a Krups 2300 plus instead. Also nice design, extremely solid make, quick heating, easy to use, superb extraction with crema, good frothing and cheaper than Saeco. No loose parts and it feels like driving a German car (Krups is German).
