This gem of a CD is magic. The cut that stands out the is Safari. It is by far the creepiest and most absolutely perfect pop song on the planet. In fact, I am sure it is not even from this universe. Good things come in small packages.

Kim Deal's writing and vocals are much more polished on this EP, but it still sounds like she's having fun. The trademarked harmonic vocals and catchy guitar riffs remain, but the songs sound fuller and more cohesive. The title track is the perfect transition between the rougher stuff on the first album and the more refined material that came later on "Last Splash." This is definitely not for collectors only - definitely worth a listen if you like the Breeders at all.

This disc was my first introduction to the Breeders way back in 1993. I was at Newbury Comics, the mecca of the Boston music scene, when Don't Call Home came on overhead. When that guitar solo hit, all conscious control over my body was taken from me. I went up to the counter and demanded to know the name of this band. Since that day, I have listened to this disc at least a thousand times and it never gets old. Recently, I saw the Breeders live at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA. I then broke out the Safari disc again and it sounded as fresh as the day that I first heard it in 1993. Very few pieces of popular music have the power to burn into your memory the exact moment that you first heard it. This disc did it for me. Greatest guitar solo I have ever heard. Check this disc out!!

If you are a fan of the Breeders, or of Belly(Tanya Donelly), this is a definate must-have. About 6 years ago, i found this in a used cd store, and it is one of the best purchases i've made. The 3rd track, Safari, is by far the best track this band has ever released. Listening to it puts you in a dark, mysteriously groovy place. the three other tracks are all worth a listen, too (especially "So Sad About Us". Definately the best ten bucks i ever spent.

Another ambitious work leading up to the release of their second album, Last Splash. "Safari" has an experimental and unique feel to it. I love this EP based solely on the title song, although there are a few other songs here which are equally lovely and brilliant!

What can't be said about this EP? The drums alone on the title track are worth the purchase price. The music is infectious with it's loud guitars and surreal vocals. A must have for any Breeders fan! Or a great way to start your Breeders collection.

My absolute favourite of all the Breeders CDs...with Title Tk a close second. Short but worth it! Don't call home and Safari are genius, in my opinion...can't stop putting them on again and again. The other two tracks are also very good.

When I first saw the video for "Safari" in '92, I couldn't stop watching. This was my introduction to the Breeders. I bought this ep when it came out and haven't stopped listening to it since. I wish all their records were this good. The guitars are amazing, the drumming is superb. The quiet but amazing production of this ep is still my favorite thing about it... it's perfect.

This ep is short and to point, and so is this review: "Safari" is a perfect e.p. from a great band. It's a shame it isn't in print anymore, but it is definitely worth picking up used, even for a casual Breeders fan. For a quick, consistent musical fix, look no further:

1) First version of "Do You Love Me Now?" - a little bit faster than the version they recorded for "Last Splash," with a bit more violin. Still the same awesome song.

2) "Don't Call Home" - features some of the sickest guitar sound ever recorded.

3) "Safari" - Great dynamics and arrangement compliment a top-notch song about ... well, as is often the case I have no idea what Kim is singing about, but it's all immensely catchy.

4) "So Sad About Us" - a brilliant choice of an obscure Who song. The Breeders deliver a very faithful version that nonetheless makes this song their own.

For such a short, unassuming little e.p., "Safari" packs a wallop.
