Customer Reviews

The animals are crafted very well.
Patricia Hosler
While it's great for storing, it's compact size and odd shape makes it difficult to get the animals in and out - the rope handle also seems to get in the way.
homeschool_mama
It is great fun and helps him use imagination when he plays with them.

Being the compulsive and indecisive person that I am (bad combination), I decided that I had to buy two different versions of this type of tube of African animals and check them out for myself and provide you photographic evidence of my careful examination on behalf of children and parents worldwide! (I uploaded pictures, but for some reason they have not yet been published by Amazon.)

The executive summary is that I give the Safari Wild Toob the edge over the Wild Republic African Tube for the following reasons:

* Slightly more realistic and better rendering and painting of animals (with a few minor flaws)
* Better silly spelling of the word Toob
* Bonus clever spinning globe on top of sturdy packaging: I, (ahem, I mean kids) will love this feature!

Both the Wild Republic African Tube and the Safari Wild Toob were as described (though Safari gives a more thorough description on Amazon). The Wild Republic tube packaging was clear flexible plastic with green fabric binding, matching handle and an attached zip top whereas the Safari "toob" was a squared-off acetate tube with an attached hinged snap-on lid topped by an attached rotating earth. The toob has a knotted rope handle that made pulling out and stuffing the creatures back in the toob slightly more difficult. The Safari toob was at least 2" taller, but the Wild Republic tube was wider at the top, making it easier to stuff your menagerie back in quickly after mom has asked you for the third time to do so.

The toy sizes were similar to each other, with the Safari Toob animals averaging slightly larger and most averaging around 1.5"H x 2"W with a couple as long 3" with tails included.

Everybody has animal figurines, but many of them are very cheap so that the features of the animals are not terribly realistic. These are pretty good considering their size and price. The plastic has a sturdy feel and is phlate free.

The Wild Toob is the best one to get if you're only going to get one. It has all the land animals in it that are popular in books and such but children might not get to see in real life. Having the animals in 3D really popped them in my kid's memory so she very quickly learned their names at 22 months. We pull out relevant animals when she is watching programs that feature them. We have collected about 9 of the Toobs in total; mostly because I enjoy them so much ;)

FYI, some of the animals have their names printed on their bellies if you look really closely.

If you don't have any of these, they are indispensable. My house is covered with little animal groups who either socialize or eat one another. They nurture an already wild imagination with no batteries required. More realistic looking than other "tubes" or tubs that I've seen at big toy stores and made better (seams match up and they're painted correctly). Great buy.

These Toobs from Safari Ltd. are fantastic! I bought this Wild Animal Toob for my son (he was 2 1/2) last Christmas, and of all of his gifts (which included lots of cool stuff from aunts & uncles), this was his favorite. He is still playing with these animals and we've added many more to the collection. For $4.99 at TJMaxx, this was definitely my best buy last Christmas!

The animals are very small, about size of quarter, some a tad bigger. They could pose a hazard for both small kids and those whom walk around the house without shoes. My girls like them, just wish they were a bit bigger, so just know they are quite small.

These animals are even smaller than they look in the picture. My son does enjoy playing with them, but definitely not worth $10.00.

These are smaller than I had anticipated but they're cute. If your child likes playing with and learning about animals, it might be worth it =)

I have bought several tubes, my soon has enough of these animals to fill a small bucket. He takes them everywhere, playtime, bathtime, bedtime. He knows every single animal, and loves pulling them out one by one to say their names. "Moose...great white shark....gazelle...rooster..."
