Safari Ltd Knights and Dragon Toob

This exact same Safari Limited tube of knights was available locally at Michaels Craft Store for only $6.99 and there was no shipping charge. How is it that a "bricks-and-morter" store, with all its expenses and overhead can charge about 30% less than the cheapest vendors on the Internet? I would expect the opposite to be true. These cool little knights should be available for about $4.00 on the Internet & be eligible for super saver shipping. The greed continues. Caveat emptor.

As far as the figures go, they are nicely done. Tha painting is reasonably well done for a mass market item. The figures are on the "rubbery" side rather than the brittle side of plastic, which is a good thing. The swords, axes, spears, and banners will bend rather than break. The paint seems to be resiliant and impervious to the bending, but I wouldn't put it to a stress test. There is a nice assortment of figures including two horses/war ponies, a dragon, and a catapult. The set is designed to stir the imagination and I think it succeeds admirably. Safari Lmtd. is a good brand and I hope they continue to put out such excellent toys. If you haven't checked them out, they also offer pirates, James Town settlers, Powatan Indians, more dragons, Egyptian play sets, boats, planes, trains, farms, Wild West, dinosaurs, etc., and all at a similar quality and price. I highly recommend them.

My toddler loves animals so he got this in his stocking, and the Melissa and Doug carry-along barn and animals as a present. The Toob animals are FAR BETTER in quality, and the packaging says they're pthylate and lead-free. The animals are realistic looking, can stand on their own, and are a good size for little hands (and parental purses and pockets). I plan to get the other Toobs, my child has been carrying around his animals all day.

These animals are very cute. They are detailed and great to hide in kids pockets. The only complaint I have is the scale. The kitten is the same size as the calf! Odd.

Cute item, but the scale is really off. The paint on the figures also comes off easily. The horse is bigger than the teepee and smaller than the rider.

Great toy - I had ordered these for party favors for my son's 7th birthday party. He was having a knight birthday party and when we brought out the party bags and the boys saw what was in them, they were so excited - to say the least! They loved them! One of the boys that got them was my other son and he played with them for 3 days straight. Great set for the price!

My husband was searching for plastic animals as a gift for our son's 2nd birthday and found these. Initially we were disappointed at just how small the animals are- they really are mini! But our son, who absolutely loves to play with the (larger) toy animals at daycare, has a special lunchbox where we store these critters, and every morning and afternoon these are his toys of choice. We now have farm animals, wild animals and zoo animals, and he also got a "toob" (I can't help but cringe when typing that) of dinosaurs from another family member. Our 3 1/2 year old also enjoys playing with them, and it inspires a lot of imaginitive play. We sort them and practice animal sounds in addition to creating scenarios and other fun games... they are actually more educational than I had initially thought. My only real issue is their size (and the legs of some of the thinner-limbed animals warp easily). Otherwise, we are very happy with them.

This Knights and dragon toob from Safari has eight different knight figures about 2 inches tall. Two have horses as well. The small dragon and non-firing catapult round out this little playset as a great take-along toy. They are all nicely painted with blue or red trim on the knights so that they can be used for two different armies.

These little horses are well made and are very detailed! The pack came with several different breeds, and the horses are all proportionate in size to their relative breeds (i.e.- the pony is much smaller than the draft horse). They have provided hours of entertainment for my little girl and they were an excellent potty training incentive!! We also own the "Pirate Safari Toob" and the horses are much, much nicer than the pirates who have a sloppy paint job and are disproportionate to one another.

On the plus side, fairly realistic figures that, unlike most/all other sets, don't look like war and fighting is their only occupation. It's nice to be able to give a 6 years old figures that behave a bit peacefully and in somewhat realistic everyday life situation. On the minus side, the scale is awful. I understand this is a standard feature of Toob (see the Space toob for instance), but some excess could be improved. Good for diorama though. Haven't see the paint peel off after a few weeks.
Bottomline: my 6 year old son liked it and it looks safe and durable enough.

If you have kids or yourself likes knights and dragons, this is a great set!! My son was thrilled when this item arrived. He LOVED the knights and wanted more! They are a perfect size for him and are very detailed! He enjoys having battles and having 2 different colored knights in there, he could battle them against each other!!
