Product Description

Product Description

Liopleurodon was among the largest meat-eating animals ever. These ominous looking creatures had long jaws with rows of sharp teeth. It is thought that this 50 ft animal could break a medium-size car in half with one powerful bite. The Wild Safari Dino collection has all the favorites including the Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, Brachiosaurus and many more. Dinosaurs that children love most in a variety of fiercely action packed poses. Each dinosaur replica is amazingly detailed, hand painted for realism and designed to stimulate the imagination. All our figures are sculpted by experts which ensures authenticity. By providing educational information in five languages, we encourage children to learn about these ancient extinct creatures that once roamed our earth.

From the Manufacturer

Play is the essential joy of childhood. Through play children learn about themselves, their environment and the larger world. At Safari Ltd. We design toys that assist the joy of play. In a highly technical world, the most endangered species is the imagination. Perhaps we should spell that with a capital "I". Without imagination, the individual loses the creative spark. We intend to never let that happen. We hope your child will enjoy many hours of creative play with this hand painted Safarilogy Dinosaur Liopleurodon.

This is a very good representation of Liopleurodon. This animal was made famous in the Walking with Dinosaurs Series from 2000. Contrary to this series, the animal is much smaller only about 40 feet long. If you have a dinosaur or prehistoric animal lover I would definitely get this.

It's amazing. Dinosaur toys have advanced right along with our knowledge of dinosaurs. I remember the old toys I grew up with, with upright T-Rex's, for example, walking on two legs with their tails dragging the ground, a uniform gray. We know of dinosaurs that were undiscovered when I was 7. Makes you want to be a kid again.

The detail is amazing on this toy, the fearsome jaws and teeth, the coloring. It's a very solid, durable-looking toy as well, with no parts ready to snap off. It so revolutionized my son's dinosaur collection (and like any 7-year-old he's a paleontologist in training, pointing out to me that liopleurodon is NOT a dinosaur) that we had to buy him several more dinosaurs. They're all beautifully designed and painted and well worth every penny, the kind of things you wouldn't mind putting on a shelf to admire.

Highly recommended and thoroughly play-tested by a 7-year-old.

This is a very nice depiction of the marine reptile Liopleurodon. The color pattern reminds one of the creature represented on the BBC "Walking With Dinosaurs" series. My only regret is that this toy was not larger. A toy Liopleurodon about a foot long would be awesome. I recommended it to any collector of dinosaurs or prehistoric sea creatures.

Dan's Dinosaur's was wonderful. My son had one request for his 8th birthday; a liopleurodon and Dan's Dinosaurs had it. I thought I would have to look forever for this, but it was very easy. It was shipped quickly and well in time for the party.

This toy is fine in appearance. But it is way too small in comparison to other Safari Ltd dinosaur and prehistoric marine reptile figures. Liopleurodon was a very large animal. So was Kronosaurus, a close relative. Yet the Safari Ltd Kronosaurus is more than twice as big as the Liopleurodon when they were, in actuality, close in size. So the Liopleurodon toy in essence is the size of a juvenile Liopleurodon when compared to the company's other toys. Frankly, I don't know what they were thinking. This toy is way too small!

Durable, realistic and attractive toy. My son has (ab)used it for a month and it is still like new. My only gripe is that it is rather small - slightly bigger than a matchbox car.

My son was completely disappointed when this arrived. He was expecting a larger, rubber toy ....instead, he got a miniature plastic toy. Very disappointing.

This Safari Liopleurodon is 6-1/2 " long and has a black upper surface (some reviewers say it is dark blue, but mine appears to be black) with off-white lower surfaces. The detail on the Liopleurodon is good but not as good as on Papo's dinosaurs. For example, the Liopleurodon's inner mouth has a matte finish with no ridges in the upper mouth while Papo dinosaurs have a more realistic gloss finish depicting a moist surface found in the inner mouth and has the ridges in the upper mouth.

The matte-finished, textured skin surface is curious to me as I would have thought a sea-dwelling beast would have a smooth, shiny surface.

The Liopleurdon was made popular in the BBC documentary series WALKING WITH DINOSAURS where it was stated that it was the largest predator that ever lived with a length of 25 meters, but more recent paleontologist opinions is that it was actually around 10 meters long.
