3.0 out of 5 stars Kittie; "Safe EP"
Mmmkay! Well here we have the "Safe EP" by the excellent band Kittie.

I'll do a song breakdown review thingy.

"Safe [KMFDM Inc. Remix]" - Okay so this remix isn't BAD but it's not GOOD. It's VERY industrial and it's very...Electronic. No instruments or anything, just computerised really. I can't say anything negative about this remix, but...

With the release of Kittie's single for "Safe" comes a lot of good and bad. The song itself is a great song that brings back the old school dark and slow vibe to Kittie. Though the original version is not on this (it only has a radio edit and a remix), the tracks are very good none the less. "Safe"'s remix, done by industrial metal gods KMFDM, brings out a side of the track that most did not know existed (me included), and takes us back to the days when KMFDM were the reigning kings of German industrial. The radio edit is just that, a shorter edit, nothing really speical. The other five tracks on the album - "No Name", "Severed", "What I Always Wanted", "In Winter", and "Pain" - are all on their last full length "Oracle". Though the songs are very good (the best being "What I Always Wanted"), something new, unreleased, or remixed would have helped out. Still, they live tracks are amazing. They catch the pure sonic fury that Kittie exhibits when they play live. The single itself is great for people who are diehard Kittie fans (which I am proud to say I am), do not have "Oracle" yet, or want a great remix, but other than that, it is pointless. This is still a solid single with some great tracks.

I can't say anything negative about this remix, but nothing positive either. 6/10

"Safe [Radio Edit]" - Exactly the same as the album version except it features a sudden ending instead of the breakdown featured on "Oracle". They cut about 20 seconds off the song and that's literally it. Because of the lack of creativity with the radio edit and it's pretty much the same on the "Oracle" album, I'm giving it the same rating as on "Oracle"... 6/10

"No Name [Live]" - This is a good recording. Morgan's growling is very good. This is more hardcore than on the album! 8/10

"Severed [Live]" - This is by FAR my favourite live track featured on this CD! Morgan's growling is awesome! I LOVE THIS LIVE TRACK! 10/10

"What I Always Wanted [Live]" - Okay from this song forward the CD goes completely downhill. This is probably my favourite song off "Oracle", but here Jennifer is singing and Jeff is growling with Morgan doing back up growling. To be honest, this live track is disgusting. Jennifer makes horrible noises when attempting to sing, and another reviewer described it quite well when (s)he said she sounds like she's trying to give birth to a dolphin out of her nose! This live track makes me sick. Jennifer should keep her mouth shut if that's the standard of singing voice she's capable of. Now with Lisa in the band, I hope signing vocals will be done by her on tour. I've never heard Lisa sing, but I'm certain she's better. Oh, and Jennifer's bass on this song has MELODY?! She's playing the song how SHE wants it. Basically this song sounds nothing like the original on "Oracle" because of Jennifer. Jennifer cannot sing and she's not even capable of playing a 3-chord bass line without screwing it up. I don't even play bass and I can play that song! Oh Talena, where art thou? 4/10

"In Winter [Live]" - Jennifer opening her noisy mouth again. If she's not capable of creating tolerable sounds with her voice, they should have hired some singer thing or changed the songs slightly so Morgan could sing and growl. JENNIFER SHUT UP! AGAIN, where the hell is Talena?! In theory Morgan could have sang this song because there's barely any growling but NO they had to have Jennifer do it. 4/10

"Pain [Live]" - This song starts off VERY good until they get to the "you deserve nothing at all" part purely because Jennifer decides to make noises again. Seriously, if their live performances are going to be destroyed by Jennifer then I'm going to lose interest very quickly. She cannot sing. I'd give her credit for being a good bassist, because she is but she...changes songs to suit her.

As for the live videos on the CD. The live songs are "Mouthful of Poison", "Charlotte" and "Wolves"...They're good live tracks, but recorded with poor film. They're definitely watchable and I even burned mine to a VCD so I can watch them on my TV.

So basically, if you think you can tolerate Jennifer's singing then go for it...Buy this EP! I have warned you that she sounds terrible but hey if you think you're man enough for Jennifer's voice box!

I like this EP, but I tend to not listen to the last 3 tracks.

Kittie are my favourite band without a doubt I love them so much, so of course I'm going to buy all their CDs, but I don't find myself listening to this very often.

Okay, this cd is not worth the money, unless you are really into Kittie. The safe wasn't really special, it sounded a lot like the original version of the song which is also on this E.P. The remix adds industrial factors , and metalic clings, and the vocals were mixed well. The live songs, weren't at the bands peak either. Morgans Growls/screams were not as brutal, as they were on the record, and Jen doesn't have much of a singing voice. but the bands new members are excellent, the newest line up is: Morgan Lander, Lead vocals, guitar/ Mercedes lander Drums/ Jennifer Arroyo / Bassist, vocals, and of course danny, or i think his name is danny, he is the guitar tech, and is way better than fallon, and Talena is not really missable since jennifer makes her seem like a little tiny girl. Anyway back to the point. The Live videos were cool, but they were filmed with crappy film, but it gives you a sense of the somewhat brutalness KiTTiE gives out when they play live. Aside from the singing, all of the instruments on this album were played to their fullest, and there were no dissapointments at all. This band has a lot of potential, and they will make it very far in the music industry, Their newest album should be released before this summer. Enjoy

safe...kmfkdmf(or whatever the hell that bands name is)remix is awesome, even though all these people say it sucks. its better than the original cuz its got an actual beat and its kinda industralized with morgans voice which still sounds the same
-
then theres the original safe a little bit shorter, and boring as always, when i listen to this i miss the remix
-
as for the live tracks...thats what brought this cd down, the screaming made me laugh like it did on spit...and as for the singing, oh my god, that was worse...she sounded like she was trying to give birth to a dolphin out her nose
-
live footage...pretty ok but the live tracks werent that great so why should this be?
-
so basically, only for severe kittie fans that dont mind crappy music, with a really really great remix(despite what evveryone says), the remix is the only reason why i bought this in the first place any way...DONT LISTEN TO THEM ALL THE REMIX OF SAFE ROX A LOT

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy Oracle or Safe, January 21, 2006

This review is from: Safe (Audio CD)
Both Oracle and Safe are horrendous. "Spit", their debut album with Talena Atfield and Fallon Bowman best captured the raw energy of the band. The Paperdool EP is also good. Anything after that is junk without melody, just noises and screams. I don't recomend this CD, it really stinks. Sorry guys, you lost your fan base and your way once Talena and Fallon left the band. Kittie as a viable group is dead.

3.0 out of 5 stars I love Kittie, but...., September 4, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Safe (Audio CD)
This is probaly their worst work so far.

- The "Safe" remix is very cool and i enjoy it. It's like industrial metal. They mixed it very well. I like it

- The "Safe" radio edit isn't any different from the album version, just this has a shorter ending. Still a very good track

- The live tracks. Well, let me start off by saying that Morgan's singing is what brought this CD down. Morgan's singing is HORRIBLE. It's very whiny and just plain awful. Her singing is really pretty on "Paperdoll EP"(and on all of the other CD's her singing sounds beautiful, but again she's in the studio)..i don't know what happend :(. I mean, i can sing better than Morgan on this CD. Other than the horrible singing, they sound quite good.

Overall, this is pretty good but could have been WAY better if the singing was better. (...)

I have been a Kittie fan since the days of"Spit".I was impressed with the fact that a all girl band still in school could create a very interesting album being so young.I love there "Oracle" album.I feel it represents there very best work considering they have had so many muscian changes over the years.I don't listen to guteral style music often because it tends to get on my nerves.I basically bought "Safe" for the two different versions of Safe...I love that song it's so dark and cool at the same time.Don't get me wrong,I enjoyed "In Winter and Pain" as well. The only gripe I have is the album is to short it needs more musical content to make it more worth your money!

Rock on...Hillery

5.0 out of 5 stars how far they have come, January 18, 2004

i love the safe ep. I read the reviews of you other people and i guess you have to be a true kittie fan to love this ep. Morgan has come along way with her vocals. On the safe ep compared to the paperdoll ep you can tell the diffence. Dont bag on kittie if you havent listened to them. I cant wait till their new album comes out. Stupid record company. IF you dont like girls that scream or any screaming at all dont buy anything from kittie. If you do go ahead you will be amazed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not That Good..., December 26, 2002
This review is from: Safe (Audio CD)
I dont even like Kittie that much, just some of their stuff, but Safe is a good song. The only reason I bought it was because KMFDM remixed it. Save your money and buy a KMFDM cd instead. You'll like it better. Just d/l the one good song off of this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kittie is now just the Morgan sisters, December 26, 2002
This review is from: Safe (Audio CD)
I sure miss Talena and Fallon. Kittie still rocks, but I think they lost alot of the original formula after 'Spit'. Fallon was beautiful and could crunch a guitar. Talena was a beauty too who could pound a bass like no one's business. But alas those days are gone, but at least Kittie is still truckin' along.

The single itself 'Safe' I didn't necessarily care for. It's OK, but it didn't get my juices flowing like 'Spit' or 'Brackish'. This enhanced CD also comes with live videos of three songs recorded at Hollywood's Whiskey A Go Go on August 13, 2002. The songs are 'Wolves', 'Mouthful of Poison' and 'Charlotte'. The footage is good and Morgan looks and sounds great. Jennifer Arroyo is on bass, and some dude named Jeff Phillips has guitar duties. Jeff looks like a poor Dimebag Daryll wannabe with a long fubky beard split up the middle and a baseball cap. There's just something wrong seeing a dude play in an established female band. I mean c'mon who would want to see a dude playing in L7?

So anyway, so-so single, 5 live tracks, and video footage. Not necessary for the casual fan, but a great addition to Kittie's catalog for Kittie fans.
