Hope for Peace and Acceptance,
By Barbra Crowley (Portland, ME USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Safe Passage: Words to Help the Grieving (Paperback)
This book got me through MANY dark times after my husband unexpectedly died . It is soothing without being sugary; it is real, and it offered comfort as I moved toward a new reality and peace. I resisted being in the club of people who needed this book, but I was ever so grateful for its existance.

Reading for Comfort,

I ordered this book after the sudden and accidental death of my beautiful daughter. I needed to find something that I could pick up any time I felt the need for some peace. This book became quite dog-eared, as I would mark my favorite poems and passages. For years, this was the last thing I would read from, at bedtime, before turning off the light.I now order it for all my close friends who are going through the same grief process and I did, as I know how much comfort Molly's words brought to me in my time of need. I still use my "dog-eared" copy and know it will always be on my nightstand for the rest of my life to remind me that there is hope for peace.

A friend of mine bought this book for me after my husband died of cancer. I felt as if my life had shattered into a million pieces (I was 8 months pregnant with our second child) and there was not much that gave me comfort. However, this book was the best grief book I read. It is not an outline of how you should feel, or what to do, it is simply a collection of quotes and thoughtful insights related to grief and loss. You can pick it up and put it down easily and the book moves through different emotions from the beginning to the end. I highly recommend it to anyone suffering from the loss of a loved one.

A friend sent this book to me following the death of my husband. Although I could only read the first few pages in the initial stages of grieving, as the months slowly went by I could accept and relate to the progression of thoughts. It is written by someone who seemed to really understand the pain of grief. It is beautiful and sensitive.C.S. Lewis wrote a book entitled "A Grief Observed". I highly recommend each of these books.

Excellent solace for the grieving..,
By Susan Mulholland (North Easton, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Safe Passage: Words to Help the Grieving (Paperback)
This is the 20th copy of Safe Passage which I have purchased so I felt it appropriate to add a review! When I lost my mom suddenly in 1992, with no time to say goodbye, a grief counselor gave me a copy of Safe Passage with page 205 marked specially for me..."Rest assured that in her dying, in her flight through darkness toward a new light, she held you in her arms and carried your closeness with her...". It meant the world to me and gave me peace. Every recipient of this small marvel of a book has found solace and comfort and I highly recommend it to any one who does not know what to give, what to say, how to help...this helps!

Words for thought in grieving process,
By
This review is from: Safe Passage: Words to Help the Grieving (Paperback)
This book gives you short passages that provide wisdom and hope to help you with grieving. I read one passage just about everyday. I lost my 20 year old son and my father in the same year and this book - even 6 years later - still gives me beautiful insight into living with grief. Many of the passages are so insightful that I feel they are speaking to me. I support this book so much that I buy it for friends who lose a loved one. I fully believe that reading it helps you heal and gives you hope.

I found this book at the library after my mother died, and found it so comforting that I bought one for myself and one for each of my siblings.

This book has been very helpful moving through a very difficult time of life. It encourages one to feel the emotions and shed the tears. It is a blessing most days; as you learn these feelings are "normal" and not unique to you. I didn't expect anger to be part of the loss of a loved one. I haven't finished the book as I'm in the second phase of grieving not quite ready to move on.

I was told about this book at my widows and widowers support group. Unable to purchase it at a local book store, I ordered it at Amazon. "Safe Passages" is a wonderful help to face each day. It came within days and I sat right down and started to read it.

When my husband committed suicide after coming home from Iraq, I was a catatonic mess. I tried reading books to help me understand the how and why, until I realized I didn't want to read statistics or one persons story and all of their specifics. All I needed to know that I wasn't alone in how I was feeling. Not to mention, my attention span was next to nothing, so this book was perfect.I marked the passages I liked in whatever sections I felt I was in. A week later I would go back and read all of the ones I had marked and if they no longer applied, I would remove the post-it book marks. At one point, I might have had an entire section marked. I've recommended this book countless times to friends who need some help with grief, regardless of the kind of grief. This book was literally my security blanket. I never left home without it, I carried it everywhere. Now I have it on my Kindle! It still helps a lot, though I can go months without reading it. If you are grieving, I am deeply sorry for your loss, whatever it may be, and I hope that you get this book. Take it as a recommendation from me to you. You won't regret this book. This is what Chicken Soup for the Soul wishes it could be. |
