They go to Dr. Reed Fairmont a local vet in the town of Firefly Glen to live with him and be his housekeeper. He is doing his friend a favor by having them in his home. He doesn't want love or committment because of the lose he suffored 2 years ago. But as time goes by the 3 connect and heal each other. But can they be safe forever while a madman is still looking for them. The characters are very real and likeable in this story. You will love Tigger the puppy and its a perfect time to read around Halloween. Enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars great story line, real sexuality, June 4, 2011
This review is from: The One Safe Place (Harlequin Superromance No. 1146) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kathleen O'Brien gave me much more than I expected with "The One Safe Place". I knew it would be a great read, but it was full of wonderful extra touches! Ms. O'Brien really put some oomph into the details, and the sweet sexual awareness between the main characters is palpable. In addition to the well-done suspense aspect of the story line, there were some sharply funny laugh-out-loud moments! Two people who have suffered great loss, an adorable little boy with a cute dog, and a worthy supporting cast all come together for a terrific romance read. Ladies, let me just say this: Sensitive, sexy, widowed veterinarian. Repeat: Sensitive, sexy, widowed veterinarian.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sparkling romance -- Very highly recommended, November 27, 2003
This review is from: The One Safe Place (Harlequin Superromance No. 1146) (Mass Market Paperback)
Millionaire Doug Lambert murdered her sister and stalks Faith Constable. When a bullet grazes her arm, Faith accepts the fact that she and her nephew Spencer must seek safety. Indeed, her sister had not been the target, but the victim of mistaken identity. Suddenly she and Spencer hold a disaster mentality; ever mindful that in the midst of ordinary living tragedy can forever alter their lives. So Faith and Spencer seek refuge in Firefly Glen at the home of Reed Fairmont.

Two years ago Reed lost his wife, who was in her late twenties, to cancer. Now he opens his home to Faith and Spencer as a favor to a friend. While he hopes that Faith and Spencer will be safe with him, Reed mistrusts his ability to protect them. His wife's death has left doubt that he can protect those he cares for. Certainly the one thing he needs most however is being offered: a little Faith.

Author Kathleen O'Brien's gift for creating entrancing romance dazzles in ONE SAFE PLACE. Tragedy leaves both Doug and Faith in desperate need of healing. Along with a wounded child, they discover the healing power of love. Once again the community of Firefly Glen springs vividly to life, resulting in a community readers will long linger in. A remarkable read that will touch the reader's heart, ONE SAFE PLACE comes very highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Fantastic Read from this author!, October 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The One Safe Place (Harlequin Superromance No. 1146) (Mass Market Paperback)
I love this writer's work and was really looking forward to the next book in the Firefly Glen series. As expected, this book was wonderful, but what I wasn't expecting was the terrific way she handled the suspense part. Very believable and chilling. My heart was pounding, even though you know a happy ending has to be coming for it to be a romance. The hero (Reed) and heroine (Faith) are so sympathetic, you are really rooting for them to get together. This is a wonderful book to curl up with some night--loved that fall season!--and just enjoy, enjoy! The only thing I'm sorry about is that this seems to be the last of the Firefly Glen books--a place that I would love to live in filled with people I would love to know. I can't wait to see where this writer goes next!
