Orson Bean's life story is at times heartwarming and at times horrifying. Some of the things he endured as a child make me cringe and you feel so sorry for the little boy that Orson was. Reading the book you can see that Orson spends the majority of his adult life searching for something; happiness, perhaps meaning. You definitely root for a happy ending for Orson.

As a huge fan of Mr. Bean, I thoroughly enjoyed him throughout the years. Most recently I've been able to enjoy him during his guest spots on The Dennis Miller radio show and that's where I learned that along with his film and broadway successes, he's turned his talents to the written word.

In this particular book and the "Mikey" story, I have gained some insight into my own relationship with God and His beloved Son......I appreciate other believers and their journeys toward faith.

Orson Bean is a delightful fellow human being and has given many pleasurable hours through his work on screen and broadway.....but, for me, I especially enjoyed getting to better know this man and his life through his books.

Listen to Orson on the Dennis miller radio show and enjoy it very much. The book however delved into aspects of his past not brought forth on the show. Not going for any spoilers but it's nice (?) to know that everyone one has the opportunity to overcome their past and own personal foibles to find happiness.

As a little girl, I had a crush on Orson Bean, the funny game show man. Safe at Home takes the reader on a beautiful faith journey - from Mr. Bean's painful childhood to, as the author describes, " a peace that passes all understanding." Thank you, Orson Bean, for sharing so deeply and personally.

I always liked Orson Bean. What a life! There's plenty of nostalgia and descriptions of his life growing up in a city.
Autobiographies always give a window into the personality development of subject. This is a poignant life story and, for me, a sad portrait of Bean's parents most of all.
He never judges his family but kept (keeps) on going to become not only a wonderful actor and personality, but also a fine human being (human Bean!).
I've purchased two more of his books.
