5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful heater
We bought one 1500 Comfort Zone heater last year and it heats our whole upstairs, about 1400 sq. feet. It heats all areas except for having to turn on the heater in our bathroom when showering. We have it set about 72 degrees and live in Northern New York where the temps get quite cold.
We do have a fireplace with heat blowers that we use also.
Looks like we...

The only way it would have a chance of heating 1000sf of space, would be if the outside temperature was in the mid-50s.

It is wrapped in an attractive cabinet, with lots of buttons, and a remote control. It is quiet. And the cabinet stays cool. So I give it an extra star for being a nice package. It would be a decent buy if it sold for around $80.

But as far as saving money on heating bills, forget that. It is no better than any other 5000 BTU heater. How could it be? That is a measurement of its heat output.

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS HEATER IS A RIPOFF, February 26, 2009

Comfort Zone heater SUCKS. I bought one of these heaters and am thoroughly disappointed. It will not turn on until it is really cold, like around 40-45 degrees or so. As a result i ended up using my old heater instead.
When it does turn on (which has been about five times this winter) it won't turn off automatically so the room just got hotter and hotter until i turned it off. I can't program it to turn on/off at certain times because that part doesn't work.
I called customer service (which is lousy-you can't get them half the time after waiting a long time) and they told me to do this and that which i did, but nothing worked. I bought it in the summer when it became available so by the time i tried using it in the winter the money back guarantee was over.
So i'm stuck with a $400 piece of garbage.
P.S. I have seen other reviews that say these units break down a lot. I never got mine to work long enough to break down these other ways. Do your homework and read the customer reviews online. This is too much money to throw away.

Looks like we saved about $180 last heating season, certainly not a 50% saving but still good.
Am trying to decide if I want to invest in one for our finished basement that we keep heated all winter also.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy, January 27, 2010

This review is from: SafeGuard 1500 Comfort Zone Infrared Heater, Cherry Wood
I bought one of these last year. However, I did not buy it from this sight or on the internet. The following is a copy of the letter I wrote to the company about their product:

To whom it may concern,

I purchased one of your ConfortZone CZ1500 heaters last January. Based on the sales pitch I received, I was under the impression that this heater would heat a 1000 square foot area at half the cost of my current system. (I have electric baseboard heat) I had my doubts but I went ahead and bought into the scam and purchased one of the heaters.

After 1 year of use and comparing my heating bills, I found out that it cost more per/month to run your product (with my baseboard heat) and it will NOT heat a 1000 square foot area on it's own. SURPRISE!!!!! If I add the $1/day (the claim your sales rep said it would cost to run your product) to my current/old electric bill, I don't think that ads up to any kind of savings. Do you??? It also can't even keep up heating a 13' X 20' room without the additional use of my baseboard heat. Unless you like a nice cool area and wearing a coat.

I'm not sure how your company can make the kind of claims it does and stay in business or get the approval from anyone like the better business bureau.

After recieving my next electric bill, I have shut off your heater trying to save the $30 per/month it was costing to run it. If I'm lucky, I might even save more by turning it off.

PS
Based on some other reviews I've read on the internet, I'm not the only one who's been ripped off. The word is out and be assured I will keep it going. Have a nice day.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT WORTH ONE STAR, February 10, 2009
This review is from: SafeGuard 1500 Comfort Zone Infrared Heater, Cherry Wood
Comfort zone: After having are heater on for one full month we were able to do a comparison from last year with fuel bill and electric bill. Our's were set at 71 degrees and on 24 hour's each day. The electric increased $245.71. The fuel decreased (natural Gas) $52.20 so do the math. Since it only had a 30 day gaurantee the company will not refund our money. I am hearing the same thing from other people who have them. A much cheaper heater is just as good and at a much lower cost in heating. It is of my opinion they don't receive any star. Don't beleive it when they say less than $1.00 a day. It's closer to $8.00 a day. Buyer's Beware

5.0 out of 5 stars lowered my heating costs, February 3, 2009
This review is from: SafeGuard 1500 Comfort Zone Infrared Heater, Cherry Wood
I am extremely happy with my CZ infrared heater. My home is approximately 900 sq ft, and well insulated. I live in the pacific northwest, since purchasing my CZ infrared I have seen a decrease in my electric bill of $40-$55 a month compared to using my standard basebord heating. I am planning to purchase many more for friends and family as we could all use a break in our monthly bills through this tough economic time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Caution, November 1, 2009
This review is from: SafeGuard 1500 Comfort Zone Infrared Heater, Cherry Wood
I bought this same heater from another source but simply want to post a warning for others. The reason I did not give it five stars is the simple fact the plug appartently overheated and melted an area on one prong and also blackened and slightly melted the prongs area that was in the receptacle. It turned the heater itself off but did not trip the breaker box and I smelled the odor of the burnt area upon inspection. The heater did a beautiful job prior in my TV room as I had the furnce set at 65 and it had not turned on. The room heated up to 72 degrees. The back filter is very easy to remove and clean. My nephew replaced the plug with a very heavy one and also replaced the receptacle. There was no evidence of anything wrong in the connection of wires in the receptacle. Today, it is 49 degrees outside and my TV room is 72 with the heater now functioning once again. I have watched the cord and plug very carefully this time for warmth and both have remained cold.

I am not sure if this is going to lower my Michigan heating bills, but it looks GREAT and does heat a room very quietly. The remote control is very nice. My Wife can adjust the heat up or down from the couch.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT AN ENERGY SAVER, February 12, 2010
This review is from: SafeGuard 1500 Comfort Zone Infrared Heater, Cherry Wood
I purchased a 1500 watt comfort zone infared heater to heat our office that seems to be colder than the rest of the house. When plugged in and turned on it draws so much energy you can see the lights dim and then after a little while the breaker will trip. Our house is only about 10 years old, so I know our wiring is ok. When i called the heater company to talk to them about my breaker tripping all the time, they informed me that this heater needs its own circuit, meaning I would have to run a seperate line and breaker for just this heater. Does this sound energy efficient? I don't think so, and not only is the heater not energy efficient but it is no longer a portable heater as advertised, unless you run a dedicated circuit in every room of your house that you might want to use this heater.

4.0 out of 5 stars I own two of these, November 2, 2010
This review is from: SafeGuard 1500 Comfort Zone Infrared Heater, Cherry Wood
3 years ago I bought my first Comfort Zone heater when the oil prices were starting to go out of sight. I normally heat my 1234 square foot home with oil furnace. I would take me 2 and 1/2 tanks of oil to get through the winter with roughly $300.00 per fill and up based on oil prices. I live alone and I do not need the whole house heated. Oil would heat the whole house. Under that condition I would always be cold as I kept the oil heater temps to 68 and still ran a traditional electric heater pointed on me. After buying the CZ heater, I dropped my oil furnace's temp back to 60 degrees or lower and primarily heat with the Comfort Zone. I do put up curtains at the top of the stairs, and in my kitchen doorway to keep the heat contained in the main living space of my downstairs. During the day I drop the temp to 65 when I am not here and during the night when I sleep. My electric bill went up about $100 dollars per month during the winter. Cost factoring out what oil would cost me I think I save something in the long run as I am more comfortable with the level of heat this unit provides. Last fall I bought a second unit and use that upstairs as needed. My parent's bought one as well that they use in their sun room or roll it to the main part of house. I love the remote. I can change temps, and turn it off and on easily with it.

One review said about it dimming the lights while in use. I have never had that happen. I will tell you that it needs it's own outlet- and it should not be run on an extension cord. If you are using other items on the same electrical line that are pulling lots of juice too you could blow a breaker. I had that happen one time in the 3 years I owned this heater.
