This is definitely a thinking-person's game, and also one requiring persistence and patience.

3.0 out of 5 stars A puzzle game marred by a steep learning curve, vague hints and long load times.
Customer Video Review     Length:: 8:47 Mins
This is me talking about the game and some of the frustrations it brings.

To clarify the amount of time it took me to finish, it was over the course of 5 days: the total time played was 12 hours and 15 minutes.

Enjoy!

This is definitely a thinking-person's game, and also one requiring persistence and patience.

Some of the safes are no-brainers (find a key in one safe, and it unlocks another safe), many have a clever puzzle to solve (manipulate a series of switches or buttons), while some are of the "unknown code keypad" type. This last kind proved the most difficult, because there's no feedback other than not getting the code right.

My wife and I took about ten hours to get through the whole thing, and we resorted to online walkthroughs on three of the keypad safes. If you find yourself needing a walkthrough, find one that gives hints rather than just saying "the code is 1234," to make the game more fun.

Take note, the mansion is gloriously rendered, but it is almost all eye-candy. The only thing needed to solve the safes are the safes themselves and the items in your inventory, which almost all come from opening other safes. In other words, it's not a point-and-click adventure where you're searching for hidden hotspots.

This aspect of the game was especially well done. If you cursor over an area where you can click, the icon changes, but if you can't click there YET (because you don't have the right key yet, for example), you also get feedback, so you know that's a future clickable area.

To sum it up, the puzzles require creative thinking (a few real out-of-the-box puzzles), persistence, and patience (and some paper for taking notes, to help discover patterns). The game is very rewarding if you solve the safes on your own.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great if you are into this sort of thing., December 23, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

Safecracker is a point and click adventure with LOTS of puzzles. You move your player around by clicking places in the room, moving you to different prerendered spots with a 360 panoramic view. This is pretty dated, but it works well for the game. One complaint is that it takes too long to load between rooms, especially if you don't know what to do and are traversing the entire mansion looking for something. THe entire game revolves around specialty "safes" that you are trying to get into, to find clues to the whereabouts of the deceased owners will. These safes are usually just extremely difficult puzzles, some of which will take hours to solve ):
But if you love puzzles and like the idea of the game, Safecracker would make a great rental (you will finish it in a few sittings).

THIS IS AN AWESOME GAME IF YOU ARE REALLY INTO SOLVING PUZZLES. I MUST ADMIT IT IS NOT EASY AT ALL BUT IT KEEPS YOU ON YOUR TOES UNLIKE OTHER GAMSE THAT AS SOON AS THE MYSTERY IS SOLVED ITS NOT FUN. IT TAKES TIME TO FIGURE OUT EACH BOARD THATS WHAT MAKES IT FUN. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO LOVES PUZZLE GAMES.

This is a fun puzzle game. My boyfriend and I (we're middle-aged) really enjoyed solving the puzzles together. The puzzles are very unique and it's satisfying when you figure out the answer. It was very addictive. Only one complaint: we finished it within 24 hours (2 sittings) -- I wish it could have lasted longer. Oh well -- I'll give it to my brother now and he'll enjoy it too. This game is very much like Myst, et al -- only with mostly just different types of safes.

This game is virtually impossible without extensive "cheat" help. Several puzzles require over 100 moves to solve, so you could be trying for a very long time, and would need to keep meticulous records of every move to root out the wrong ones. A better on-disk hint section is needed. I would not recommend this product unless you do nothing else except solve puzzles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, challenging puzzles, January 25, 2010

My Dad bought this game used for $10 or so. It was perfect at that price, because it is not a game that you will be able to play over and over for months, like some other games. My husband and I spent about 10 hours playing the game together and both really enjoyed it. There were ALL kinds of safes and puzzles, from the easy- find a key, it opens another safe and you just have to figure out which one, to the more challenging number, pattern, or spatial orientation type puzzles. Even these puzzles range in difficulty level from the fairly easy to the quite challenging. It was good to play as a team for two reasons. First, we each had strengths figuring out different types of puzzles, so it made some puzzles quicker and easier to solve. Second, the Wii format might not be the GREATEST for this game, because our hands would get tired of holding the remote and pointing it at the screen for some of the tiny movements that was needed for some of the puzzles, so we would take turns with the remote to ease hand cramping.

Adults will probably find this game moderately challenging, but my 12 year old nephew found it too difficult and had to use internet walk-throughs for almost all of the game.

Overall, it kept us entertained and wanting more, so we gave it 5 stars!

3.0 out of 5 stars Relaxing and enjoyable, March 29, 2009

This review is from: Safecracker (Video Game)
Its ok I guess. Its a point and click game with panoramic viewing. The game is nothing spectacular, but it is enjoyable, relaxing and something to pass the time away. I thought it was too short, [...]. I definately would suggest renting it since it is so short. It only took me 6 hours to get through the entire game. There are 30+ some safes. About half are easy or predictable. There are a couple of difficult ones that will get you stumped and will make you feel like a genius if you figure it out on your own :) And there are a few that are almost impossible unless you are a member of Mensa. If you like Brain Teasers, you really cant go wrong here.

This game is great for puzzle lovers. It really gets you thinking. Some of the puzzles were really hard but with some help they were solved. Loved that this game took more than a few hours. It took me a few days of playing to finish. Wish there were more out there like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius mystery game!, August 10, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Safecracker (Video Game)
This is one of the most intelligently thought out games I have ever seen. It is quite addicting as well! There were only a couple of times I needed help, and I strongly recommend using a hint system rather than walkthrough (I used Universal Hint System online) because sometimes I didn't want the answer, just a little clarification.

One of the great things was that this was a simplistic game in terms of storyline. You don't have to sit through bunches of dialogue. You simply read little letters and journals entries scattered about the house in order to get a feel for Adam's life.

This is not a game where you are looking for hidden objects amongst the house. Everything is puzzles/safes. Completing one simply gives you a key or tool you'll need, or the correct information on how to solve another puzzle. The nice thing is that your inventory will X out each tool/clue that you use so you don't get confused.

I wish there were more games like this. I played this after playing Broken Sword, which I liked but had way too much dialogue for me.
