This product works great for spot treatments, when you don't have a lot of time to do a more thorough job, or when you plan to harvest from the plant in the next day or so. If you buy it to spray your whole garden--and your garden is larger than ten plants or so--then I think you'll be less than satisfied. It's not really for large treatments--your trigger finger (and your pocketbook) will take a beating if you attempt to spray a large area with many large or tall or leafy plants.

We have many veggie gardens around the house and the largest is about 25' X 25'. We have major problems with the cucumber beetle and sometimes the tomato hornworm. When I see those bag guys, I like to zap them quick. Often I don't have time to mix up a batch of spray for a thorough job, so I use this product. Sometimes I can't use the big sprayer because the wind is blowing too hard--this little sprayer bottle is handy to have at those times, too, because you can get right down close to the critters. And, of course, I feel "safer" using this product when I will be picking veggies from that plant the next day. I keep it close at hand, outside near the biggest garden and in a shaded spot by the water faucet--so I have it right there when I need it--no excuses for letting those bad insects live an extra moment!

I was originally surprised by the price for this particular bottle--then I realized it was a larger bottle than I usually find available to buy. So double-check the size before you criticize the price. 'Cause you can under-estimate the size from looking at the picture here.

This year was the first time I ever had Cucumber Beetles in my garden. I first noticed them on my squash plants, then about a week later I saw them on my cucumber plants. I am not fond of using any commercial insecticide in my garden and tried the "soap and water" and hand picking them off, only to find them right back, wrecking havoc in my garden. After reading the reviews for the Safer Brand Tomato & Vegetable Insect Killer, I figured I would give it a try. I located the beetles on my squash plants and sprayed them according to the package directions, and watched the beetles continue to move around. Thinking to myself that I just wasted my money, I figured I would spray the cucumber plants as long as I was at it. After I sprayed the cucumber plants I walked back to the squash plants and noticed all the beetles were dead! YES! I went and checked the cucumber plants and saw that the beetles that had been feeding on them were now laying dead on the leaves or on the ground. In all honesty, I just sprayed once in the early morning, and when I checked the plants later in the day, not a beetle was to be found. I can't say how long the protection will last, as I just tried the product, but I was so happy with it I just had to share! I will update this review in a week to see how long the protection last.

I've been gardening for many years and I'm always looking for better ways to protect my plants from insects without risking our health so Safer Brand 5085 Tomato & Vegetable Insect Killer  was worth the shot.

About all I can say is that it wasn't horrible; compared to other products, it did keep some of the pesky insects away. However, I still I had quite a few insects that seemed to be immune to it.

Comparing it to past products I've used, I'd have to say this one only gets 2 out of 5 stars because I felt as though I was using something only a step above water.

Our garden is just getting started - no tomatos yet. We do have a bunch of other vegetables though and some are showing signs of insect damage. I also have some tulips that are getting eaten up. I used this on both the vegetables and the tulips. It seemed to work and did not do any damage - even to the smaller saplings. I left one plant untreated as a "control" and it clearly had more insect damage than the treated plants. It's not perfect, but it made a clear difference.

Recommended.

I have used this product in the past and was pleased with the results, and decided to use this sample on a Meyer L
lemon tree that had become infested with spider mites. I use the skin on these lemons, and I have had to wipe down each leaf individually because I did not want to use something toxic. I decided to try the Safer brand on the tree and it has been very effective - an immediate reduction in the mites and their webs.

The one negative is that you have to use a LOT of this product - just two treatments and the bottle is half empty. Lemon trees also have thick, waxy leaves, so unlike other reviewers, I did not experience the leaves turning reddish brown, which is a plus.

This product is pricey, but it's worth it! I have seven tomato plants and all of them were infested with various insects. I ordered this with 2-day shipping and only lost a handful of tomatoes. Bugs (mainly ants and worms) left as soon as it was applied. We've eaten a bunch of tomatoes so far and there is no evidence that anything has been applied to them.

I have used this on tomatoes, and on other plants that all of a sudden had some creepy crawlies - all of which fled at first spray and have not returned. It was great to be able to use a product that is organic and also really effective.

I'm luck enough to live in an urban area but have enough space to do my own vegetable garden. But along with the nature space come the bugs. I was loathe to try this spray, but the label assures us it's safe, and we always rinse our harvest anyway, so why not? I've yet to see a tomato beetle, and while the ants keep coming back, they don't seem to do too much damage. It's kind of something I only use when I start to notice a lot of bugs around, but I don't like to scare away lady bugs and other beneficials, so use wisely and with caution. Particularly seems to have saved my baby avocado tree that was getting eaten alive!

It's hard to tell sometimes whether a product works or not. Just after getting some nursery-started plants, we quickly lost two tomato plants and one other vegetable plant. The tomatoes were due to a worm that had gone into the branches and was literally eating it from within (difficult to figure out what was wrong with the plant at first due to no visible signs of insects). We also had some leaf damage to some other vegetable plants in the same garden, and after spraying thoroughly with this product, that damage stopped progressing (though again, we never actually found any insects).

What was interesting is that we went away for two weeks, and nothing more was applied. A friend watered the garden once or twice and there was rain once or twice. So theoretically, much if not all the protection should have washed off. However, we came back to ZERO additional insect damage. I don't quite no how to explain that, since these appear to be water-based. But the fact is that we currently have the most insect free vegetable garden we've had in many years, including a somewhat vulnerable heirloom variety tomato plant.

I have to attribute at least the initial protection to the product, I just find it almost too good to believe that the product continued to supply considerable protection over two weeks with multiple waterings (including at least one good rain). But maybe it did. So I'm giving it a solid 4-star rating, due to at least outstanding initial protection - with unconfirmed hope that it may even rate the full five stars.

Worse than useless in SW Florida against tomato caterpillars and whiteflies! Followed directions carefully, shake, apply directly to all surfaces, spray directly on pests, use 1x/week, etc. Pretty protected area, too, because the plants are inside a screened patio. When sprayed directly on caterpillars, they simply crawl away! The shaking must be effective, because the 1x/week has enough chemicals to cause the tomato leaves to curl (that's why I said it's worse than useless. I've never seen tomato plant leaves curl so badly!) White flies shoo away when sprayed, and then come right back later in the day. After a 8 weeks of trying, and 2 batches of several different varieties of tomato plants (first set replaced under store guarantee), I gave up and manually plucked and crushed 8 bulky, inch-long green caterpillars that simply ignore this spray today. I'm all in favor of "safe" insecticides, but only if they work! Tried two different bottles, too, just in case one was a dud. Wish I could get my money back! I'm returning to seven, I guess.
