A must-have.,

These things are great. If you've got banisters, stair rails, balustrades, second floor, basement, decks, whatever, you need these. The banister in our two-story house had gaps between the upright posts that were bigger than, say, the tiny gaps now mandated for cribs. The worry, of course, is that a baby or toddler could squeeze between the gaps and take a bad fall. And gaps that don't look that big might be large enough for a head to get stuck between, even if the shoulders won't go through. We found that the netting stayed nice and tight, although you should check the securing ropes periodically. My only complaint is that the nets are not terrific-looking, but if you've already got baby gates, outlet covers, cabinet locks and all the rest of it, you're not going to care much about the look. The added safety in your home is worth the short-term aesthetics hit.

Difficult to install and High maintenance,

There isn't much of a choice out there, so I have no products to compare this to, but I don't care for this item much. I had to install loop type screws into the finished wood base of my railing to secure it at the bottom (otherwise the netting can be slid up on the rails) and on my wall and the nylon ties that come with it are always slipping loose. If your child pulls on the netting, it comes loose very quickly, no matter how many knots you tie in the darn things. I hate having all those holes in my wood and wall, but I guess I have no other choice if I'm going to keep my kids safe. I could have screwed them into the floor where the carpet meets the bannister base, but then they would be in the way when vacumming. It would be nice if they could come up with something less permanent and destructive for indoor railings.

It's not the best looking thing, but it works great, and you don't have to make a life-time commitment. I have used this for two different railings. It worked well for a straight railing, but it's not good for stairs, or anything that would be on an angle.

The railnet is super. My 10 month old seems to have super strength, but when it comes to him trying to push through the railnet, it stops him. I have mine secured to my spindles of an open staircase. The railnet is easy to "put up" and it's extremely light weight. One person can do it. I recommend it.

I just received two of these for our new home and I was able to put both up myself with no trouble. It looks great, compliments our patio and most important - it keeps our youngest daughter from slipping through the patio railings. The cords were a bit long but they were easy to cut to a more desired length to be less noticeable. The only problem with this product is that two were not long enough. It would be wonderful if Safety 1st offered this product in different lengths since we have a 2 1/2 foot gap in the railing after installing the netting - but that is easily covered by furniture. It looks great and you can't beat the price! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with a very inquisitive and busy toddler!

My daughter recently moved into a house with a balcony on the second floor that overlooks the first floor. I worried that my toddler grandson would easily slip through the rails so I ordered this product. It was easy to install, looks OK and seems quite secure.

I don't think I would choose this as a permanent guard but we have used it two years in a row for the balcony of our vacation condo (our group has 3 total children) and it works great. It doesn't take too long to tie up and we leave it up all week with no trouble. It's not very visible when used outside.
