We bought the Alpha Elite 65 car seat a year ago because it was a top safety pick and because our son was outgrowing his Graco car seat. Over all it has been a good car seat. Below are some draw backs we had when using the car seat.

I HIGHLY SUGGEST THAT BEFORE YOU BUY THIS CAR SEAT YOU TRY IT OUT IN YOUR CAR FIRST! (toyRus will usually let you do this) ESPECIALLY IF YOU PLAN ON USING THIS IN THE REAR FACING OPTION!

Issues-

REAR FACING- Unless you have flat back seats you will probably have to use a fun noodle or rolled up towel to get the car seat in the correct elevated position. This car seat would not fit in our car in the rear facing position. We drive a Toyota Yaris 4 door Sedan (a sub compact) but from the other reviews I have read it won't fit in SUV in the correct position either. This is why you should check to make sure it fits correctly before you buy it.

CLEANING- This car seat is a pain in the butt to clean. I just spent an hour trying to get the washable cover off!!! Removing the harness system is easy except when you have to remove the harness guides. (the little slots in the bottom of the seat where the straps come through). To remove theses harness guides you have to recline the seat all the way forward, reach underneath the car seat with one hand and push while you pull with your other hand from the top of the seat. There is no room to get your hand underneath and close to the guides to properly do this. Its also hard to hold the car seat while you do it. My suggestion is to first remove the harness straps, release all the elastic bands that keep the cover in place and then grab the cover close to the harness guides and give one quick hard tug.

Suggestion- When using forward facing option, the seat must be fully upright and flush against the back of the cars seat. We had to remove the headrests in our car to get the desired effect.

PROS
-Beautiful seat. Soft fabric. Excellent design.
-Reclines in front & rear facing position
-Large and comfortable. Plenty of room for my 11-month old daughter to grow.
-3-in-1; Rear facing 5-40#, Forward facing 22-65#, booster 40-100# - I will not have to buy another car seat for her until this one expires. Here's hoping she grows out of it before that happens.
-Baby easy in, easy out
-Great safety rating.
-Got it on Amazon.com sale and saved a TON. Thank you, Amazon.

CONS
-Difficult to get strapped into the car in the rear facing position. But not impossible. (See below.)
-Large; I can see why people who own smaller sedans or compact vehicles would want to steer clear of this.
-Without the sale, I would never have purchased this car seat at $250+ (please see initial review below).

Please read initial review for my initial research.

Received this seat very quickly from Amazon.com. Immediately removed it from the box and read the instructions. I also filled out the safety recall ticket and dropped that in the mail box. A previous reviewer had complaints of the manual being hard to read/looking nothing like the seat. I did not notice this. I thought they were simple and straight forward. The photos were very helpful.

After reading the instructions, I placed my daughter in the seat to adjust the straps and headrest to get her well situated before installing it in the vehicle. As I have read every single review on this seat (taking special note of the ones 3 stars or less) I wanted to comment that I had no issues clasping or unclasping the buckle between her legs or over her chest as one reviewer suggested.

I purchased this for my 11mo old son, but went to BRU to try it out and see how it fit him first and he seemed really comfortable in it. He passed out the first time we used it in the car. I've used it in both of our cars, a Honda Civic and a Ford Edge, it was a little tight in the Civic and my husband had issues with it because he couldn't put the seat back any further (but was fine for me at 5'5 and I like my seat straight up anyways). I keep in the the Edge now and it works great, just a little close if you have a person sitting on either side though but I don't really have to worry about that...one side has plenty of room, other is a little tight, but you can at least reach the seat buckles. But that's going to be an issue with any convertible carseat. No complaints so far after almost 2 months, didn't want to spend $100 more when this one is just as great as some of the others. I attach his Tiny Love Take-Along Arch, Sunny Stroll to the arm rests and he is content.

We liked this in the store. It had everything we were looking for. But we didn't even get a chance to use it. Once we got it into the backseat, I had a very hard time simply unbuckling both the main harness release as well as the chest clasp. I really thought I was doing something wrong, but the clasps just needed a bizarre amount of force to open. This is coming from a strong 40-year old guy.

Then we tried to harness the seat in (facing rear). The seat would not sit in a stable position once we tightened the belt. We verified the belt was in the proper position. So with that not working, we tried the latches. Very painful to get the strap under the seat (you have to peel up the seat cushion by first I strapping it from a confined area under the seat... Easier to just remove the seat entirely to accomplish this). Once latched, we couldn't tighten the strap--the little mechanism would not budge under any tension (had no problem working it at the return counter, of course). Anyway, that was the last straw. After 45 minutes of struggle, my wife and i gave up. Spend a bit more for some quality and sanity.
