We got this as a gift at our baby shower two years ago. I am very glad we did. This is almost a MUST have for babies. The range is fantastic. I can be outside watching my two year old while my baby sleeps. I know that I will be able to hear her. Not only is the range great but it also picks up the smallest sounds, I hear my baby rolling over in her crib when this is on. As an added bonus, I have not found this to be a battery eater. In my opinion having a moniter is not the most important thing to have if you are having a baby. However, it is one of the more useful things if you want to have some measure of freedom while the baby is napping or if your child sleeps clear across the house from where you sleep.

This review is from: Safety 1st Crystal Clear Baby Monitor, White (Baby Product)
I received a much more expensive model of baby monitor for a shower gift. I read the reviews online and saw lots of people complaining about static but at first mine wasn't static-y. For some reason, though, after about two weeks, the first monitor became very very static-y. I could barely hear my twin babies cry, let alone any of their softer noises. So I ordered this cheaper monitor after reading a number of reviews that said it was clear. I am impressed, not only with how clear it is, but with the sound quality overall and the much less expensive price. Not only that, but the old static burdened monitor did not have an indicator light to warn me when the battery was going low-- and in the middle of the night, my old monitor's battery died, shutting off the monitor. The "crysal clear" one has an indicator, so it warns when you're getting close.
Buy this one. Sometimes, more expensive isn't better.

Don't let the price fool you,

This monitor is great. It picks up all sounds in the room no matter where the monitor is. We bought some others later because they either were supposed to work at longer range, or scramble signal for privacy. They were more than twice as expensive and not even half as good. We returned them both. Try this monitor, you'll like it and the price. In fact, I just had baby #2 so we bought another one for the convenience.
