4.0 out of 5 stars Baby care kit
The item that are in this kit except for the nasal aspirator are great. The nassal aspirator is really not big enough for a baby that has a true cold. The larger ones are far better. The other items especially the nail clippers are great.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only so-so
I registered for this without really thinking things through. I have been disappointed with the quality of the items. We had to use the medicine dropper when our son was only 2 weeks old, and it's very difficult to use. If you don't get the medicine dosage right the very first time, it's almost impossible to adjust it. Way too much air gets trapped inside...

I registered for this without really thinking things through. I have been disappointed with the quality of the items. We had to use the medicine dropper when our son was only 2 weeks old, and it's very difficult to use. If you don't get the medicine dosage right the very first time, it's almost impossible to adjust it. Way too much air gets trapped inside. Additionally, it's hard to clean. As for the bulb syringe- use the one you get from the hospital. It's soooo much better. The themometer is accurate, but it doesn't beep!!! I got very frustrated trying to take my son's temperature under his arm. He was crying, and I had to keep staring at the small digital screen as well as hold him down.

The nail clippers are okay. I do like how they have a rather ergonomic handle.

Instead of buying a kit, buy what you need separately. You'll pay more, but you'll get a better product.

4.0 out of 5 stars I don't know why other people don't like this kit, February 1, 2002

My baby's nose is small so the nasal aspirator fits perfectly into her nose to suction out mucous when she's congested. Okay, I admit when she gets older, I'll have to use a bigger bulb. (I did buy one separately). The digital thermometer works wonderfully and is very easy to use. The nail clippers are great for clipping those tiny nails and you don't have to be afraid of cutting your baby's skin. I haven't used the medicine spoon yet or the dropper, but I think this is a very handy kit to have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy Kit, August 8, 2001

This kit includes all the essentials for treating a sick baby. However, the nasal aspirator will be too small as your baby gets older, so you will need a full-sized aspirator eventually.

Also, the medicine spoon will be useless until your infant is eating solid foods, because the liquid will just spill everywhere (the baby doesn't know how to eat off a spoon yet). Therefore, you will find the syringe (eyedropper-type device) more useful for a young infant.

Finally, when the baby is very young, you won't really need the nailclippers, the nails will basically peel off.

All of that being true, this is a good price for a set like this, and you will use everything in the set. Just not all at the same stages of development.

I put this item on my registry thinking it would be great........however the suction bulb cracked after 2 weeks (luckily the hospital gives you one) The thermometer was not accurate (unless my baby really had a tempertature of 78) Any medication you will give you baby has it's own dropper with it!! In fact the only item I use is the nail clippers!!! This is the 4th product from Safety 1st that I no longer use after two months. I am not impressed!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really needed., April 6, 2002
This review is from: Safety 1st Hospital's Choice Complete Healthcare Kit (Health and Beauty)
This is not a bad product, but it is not very useful. The only thing I have used so far was the thermometer - and it works well. You receive a medicine dropper with any prescription requiring one. The nasal aspirator you receive before leaving the hospital is the best, do not lose this - I have not even used the one in this set. The nail clippers will probably be more useful when my daughter gets older, I tried using them and could not cut the nails short enough so she would not scratch herself. (we use emery boards.) The medicine spoon may come in handy, but she is still too young to use it (3 months).

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a real life saver, March 5, 2002

I got these for my baby shower and thought they would be great. I use the thermometer, but the nose bulb is useless. The only bulb I founfd that works are the hospital issue ones ( guard these with your life!!! ) The nail clippers are not very sharp, so they don't cut, and the medicine dropper you can get for free from most pharmacies. I would say save your money

1.0 out of 5 stars Ended up buying duplicates of most of these items..., August 2, 2002
This review is from: Safety 1st Hospital's Choice Complete Healthcare Kit (Health and Beauty)
I do NOT recommend this product.
1. The thermometer takes 60 - 90 seconds to provide a temperature... (as advertised). That doesn't sound long when you are filling out a baby registry -- but it is forever when you have a crying, sick baby. Additionally, this thermomter doesn't beep when it is done reading the temperature -- I constantly worry that I stopped taking his temperature too soon and the temperature isn't accurate. I ended up buying a thermometer that returned a temperature in 10 seconds and beeped when it was done -- a major improvement.
2. The nasal aspirator doesn't work well enough. (Try the one with the big blue bulb from Safety 1st instead)
3. I had to get a separate manicure set because I needed one that came with the soft emery boards. Without the emery boards, the baby scratched his face up with the new sharp points created by the nail clipper.
4. Everytime I buy new medication or fill a prescription for the baby -- I get free medicince droppers. So why would I need the dropper and spoon that comes with this kit? However I do strongly recommend that you buy the Munchkin Medicator -- It's a pacifier shaped medicine dispenser that lets the baby suck the medicine out the same way he gets formula from a bottle.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not useful, November 10, 2001

This was one of the first products I selected for my registry. I thought because it was in its own pouch it would be pretty portable and looked pretty useful. However, my son is 5 months old and I haven't used a single thing in it except for the nasal aspirator and to be honest with you the aspirator the hospital sends home with you in far better. Skip this product and register for something more useful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buy The "Generic" Brand, September 27, 2001

Before you put this item on your necessity list, read all the reviews (including mine) and then decide if this product is really worth it. If it is, then buy the generic brand - "Especially For Baby". The price is cheaper and the colors are nicer. The only items I use from this kit are the nail clippers (although you can peel your baby's nails right off) and the nasal aspirator (most hospitals provide you with a larger sized one before you leave the hospital, and that one works much better) - everything else isn't really necessary until your baby is a little older. I was a little disappointed when I received this item. In my opinion, it wasn't worth the price and the quality was not that great.
