Not for use with Newborn Baby,
By Michelle (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Safety 1st Space Saver Fold-Up Bath Tub (Baby Product)
I wanted to let new moms know that i don't recommend this tub for use with newborn babies. I received this tub as a shower gift and thought once looking at it that the tub would be wonderful. Once i started using the tub, my thoughts changed dramatically. It was extremely hard for me to bathe my daughter by myself. She slipped around constantly even while i tryed to hold her still. To add water to the tub to a level that covered my daughter enough to help keep her warm and comfortable, caused the water to flow out over the henges where the tub was assembled to be folded. I also just didn't like the position that it put my daughter in while using the tub. She looked extremely uncomfortable. This tub might be Ok for older babies but in my opinion not for newborns. So, Good Luck!

Useful Gift or Purchase!,

I liked using this tub in my baby's first six months because, although I could use my kitchen sink, this tub made it easier for me to wash the baby since the grips underneath helped to keep her stable. This tub also fits into the kitchen sink, so it's at a great height, much easier than the kind you sit in the big bathtub. I prefer using this tub for the newborn, then getting a swivel seat when baby can sit up. The two or four in one stations seem bulky and take up a lot of space. Besides, when baby is old enough to sit up, it's time to get used to the big tub and the swivel seat provides safety and security while also being actually in the big tub.

Best tub to get the job done -safely!,

Newborns quickly learn to love bath time. It's a great bonding experience between the child and his or her parents. As the eldest of five children, and having a sister with 4 kids whom I helped care for before I had my first, I thought I knew all about bath time. Wrong. A baby who cannot sit is difficult to wash safely. It's torture and leads to severe back pain bending over into the tub to wash a small infant, even with a "tub" in the "big tub". Furthermore it's slippery and dangerous. Although I have washed many babies in the sink, that's very difficult when the child is less than 3 months old. This tub is the easiest, most convenient and safest tool the accomplish that task. Why? - Because it fits in your kitchen sink!!! Although the water may slosh over the side, that's a small price to pay to wash the child safely and comfortably (for you). The foam pad is also comfortable for the child and as he/she gets older (3-6 months), it allows them to lay comfortably without slipping around too much. Once the bath is finished, it can be folded up and placed under the sink in either the bathroom or kitchen. The amazing thing is that this is the least expensive tub sold! Once our son was 6 months old, he was mature enough to sit in a bath chair in the regular tub. Trust me, this is the way to go. If you're worried about sloshing a little water on the kitchen floor(like a previous reviewer whined about), maybe you shouldn't be having any children at all-because it only gets worse! We had a wonderful bonding experience with our son using this tub. Comfortable parents (standing at the sink, not bending over the tub) leads to a very happy baby and family. Enjoy!

I never wanted a tub because I was not impressed with anything I found but my sister got me this as a shower gift. I just don't think baby is comfortable in it. His leg was all scrunched up, his head fell to one side (unpadded, by the way), and it was hard to fit it over my bathroom sink because it's a small round thing. Anyway, before I had the baby, I bought my husband a bath head cushion (the kind you blow up) from Target which he never used (too girly I guess). Turns out it is the perfect cushion (it has suction cups) to attach inside our sink and put baby in for baths. It has grooves so baby's head doesn't flop everywhere. I bath baby in no time and I have the water running because he loves the feel of water streaming down onto his body. The cushion also allows me to flip baby over so I can wash his back. He just lies on the soft terry cloth. It's perfect.

Fast, Easy, Compact...A Good Tub At A Great Price!!!,

We used this tub with our second daughter from the time she was a newborn, until she was just over five months old. She was a HUGE baby, so she outgrew it a little soon. Although I agree with the other reviews that say this tub is too slippery, this really isn't a problem if you are right there with a hand on the baby. As for the tub being too shallow...yes, but again, this isn't a big problem. Even with a big baby, if you bathe her/him in warm water, and don't take forever about it, the baby will remain just fine in terms of both temperature and comfort. Our baby wasn't exactly lacking "natural insulation/padding" anyways!! Also, in terms of size, this tub is wonderful. Folded, it fit very nicely under our kitchen sink with room to spare. I good thing, since we are living in military housing and space is getting pretty tight with two children now.Bottom line...you will run into "flaws" with any baby tub you buy. This one, in my opinion, has "forgivable flaws." The compact size, durability and great price more than make up for minor inadequacies. All in all, this is a good tub at a really great price.

Everyone I know has a baby bath tub. So, of course we bought one too. I chose this one because it folded up for easy storage. It seems to work the same as all the other non-folding tubs. I found the tub to be basically useless. First, we had trouble with water leaking. You can only put a small amount of water into the tub before it leaks out the seams or over the sides. Our son was very secure in the tub, but he was very cold. The only part of his body that stayed wet was his bottom. His legs, torso and head were all out of the water. So, he shivered constantly even though it was August! We gave up and washed him in either the sink or in the regular bathtub (with one of us in it with him.) My friends all complain about the same problems with their baby tubs too, so I don't think this model is particularly bad. I just think the idea of a baby bathtub is sort of silly. They are not much use at all. From what I can tell, most people seem to use them once or twice, hate them, and never use them again.

Bathtime is a joy!,

This tub was a shower gift and I wasn't too sure about it at first. Our son looked a bit uncomfortable when we gave him his 1st official bath, but I quickly discovered that putting one hand behind him kept him happy and stablized. He grew quickly and by the 3rd or 4th bath he could relax without the additional support.Bathing the baby at the sink is fantastic -- plus you can set everything you need within reach plus you don't have to break your back bending over the regular bathtub. Our son LOVES bath time. He's now 2 mths old. If he could vocalize his opinion, he'd probably say he wishes the tub was just a little deeper now that he's bigger. He likes to turn somewhat sideways and prop his feet over the side of the tub so more of his body is immersed in water. While I think he'll outgrow this tub within the next month or so, it was great having it while he was small. It doesn't even looked used and we fold it up to store it between baths. I recommend this for anyone with limited space or back problems. Next I think we'll get a baby bath ring and continue bathing our son in the sink until we absolutely have to put him in the big tub.

not the tub for us,

This tub is great in that it fits nicely into the sink and folds up for easy, space saving storage. However, I'm sorry I bought it. Where the top and end of the tub folds in and out there are spaces where little hands and feet get caught in. This happened to my 2 month old and she screamed terribly! I now line the tub with a towel and stuff washcloths into the joint spaces so her feet and hands won't get stuck in there, and that works great if you're willing to take the time to do that every time you set up the bath. I thought it was ironic that the tub is called 'Safety 1st', because this major design flaw isn't very safe at all. I think fingers could easily get broken if they get really caught in the space and the baby tries to pull them out. My baby did that - luckily no broken fingers, but very scary nonetheless.

Great for the first two months...,

I think this bathtub is great for the first couple months, it's great that it folds for easy storage, fits great in my double sink, the baby is secure, the problem I had was once my son turned three months I could see there is not much room for a growing baby, and now at four months his legs hang over the rinsing compartment and he looks very uncomfortable so i will have to buy another tub because it will be two months before he can sit up on his own, another thing now that he moves around alot he gets his fingers caught in the hinge area alot, thankfully without injury but it can be difficult to remove when they decide to grip once their fingers are caught..The price is great but i will have to replace it, so I think it would of been better to spend the extra money in the beginning.

Think twice before purchasing this!,

I had this bath tub for my daughter and had problems with it each time I used it. The fold-up concept is great, but as the baby moves the water in the tub sloshes around, seeps out of the hinged areas of the tub, and gets all over your counter. In order to prevent this problem, you have to put so little water in the tub, your baby will hardly get wet. Also, the pad on mine came unstuck. I called the company and they replaced it but the same thing happened that time. I would think twice before purchasing this tub. If space is really a concern for you, perhaps you can overlook all of its downfalls. I purchased a different tub when my son was born and although it takes up more storage space, I love it!
