4.0 out of 5 stars Size is big
I ordered the medium table edge guard and had looked all over for table dimensions that it fit and could not find any. I had to send it back and get the small one, but I like the product to protect my little one who is crawling and about to walk. I definately recommend it. The medium one fits table 141" to 192" in case anyone else needs to know and the small from 90" to 140".

4.0 out of 5 stars Be Careful of Size and Good for Blind Pets, Too!, January 5, 2002

Even though we were aware of the size requirements of both the medium (141"-192") and small (90"-140") table edge bumpers, we ordered the medium because our rectangular coffee table measures 148". It is approximately 4"-6" too big for a good to snug fit. In fact, it even hangs down a little on one side. However, this works good for us. We have a "canine child" who is blind and is constantly hitting her nose, forehead and chin on the coffee table. Since the bumper is too large for the table, the material bulges more than it would with a good or snug fit. Because of this "bulge", she feels the material of the bumper on her face and turns away before actually hitting the table. It's an excellent product for blind, 4-legged members of the family! If we had a "human" child, we would have to exchange it for a small. A walking or learning-to-walk baby could easily pull down the loose side and get tangled in it. Again, an excellent product. The only reason we did not rate this product 5 stars is because the sizing. Being expandable to fit multiple sizes and shapes makes it difficult to determine what size is needed, especially when your table is close to the maximum of the small and minimum of the medium.

Because it's stretchy, this table bumper makes it really hard for my 10-month-old to grab onto the table and pull herself up (instead, the bumper just pulls away from the table). It's really frustrating for her... and since pulling up is an important part of her development, I've taken the bumper off for the time being. When she is a little more mobile and confident, I'll put the bumper back on.

(However, my table doesn't have really sharp corners - if it did, I'd leave the bumper on and let her learn to pull herself up on something else...)

I'd still recommend this one over the corners-only systems - I've seen babies pull those corners right off.

3.0 out of 5 stars I Returned It, July 8, 2002

I measured our glass coffee table and this was supposed to be the perfect size, but when we put it on it was way too big. We wanted it because our 9 month old was pulling up and we were afraid she would fall and hit her head on the glass edge. However, it seemed that if she was to grab hold of the cushion, it would easily stretch away from the table top and not offer much protection. For other uses it might be good, but I decided to try and live without this for now.

My 8 month old granddaughter is standing and about to take off walking and this edge guard offers real protection from the inevitable tumbles. Only drawback is that nowhere in the description was the actual size of this item, not on Amazon or the manufacturers website. The medium was WAY too large for our standard sized rectangular coffee table. I gave it to my son for theirs, which is a large square, and ordered the small, which fits ours perfectly. Easy to install and extra corner pads are great!

We bought this when my daughter turned one. Being a stay-at-home mom, I thought supervising my daughter 100% will save her from falls and bumps. No matter how vigilant I am and how I try to be be as quick as I can to catch her, falls and bumps still happen, especially from our solid wood coffee table. She always got a bruise on the forehead or cheeks. I put off buying this because of the reviews I read here, it might not fit properly, the baby might not be able to use the table as support standing up because of this bumper, it's not worth your money etc etc.

Out of desperation since I cannot find any other alternative, we bought it in the end. I thought I'll just sew it just like one of the moms here did in case it didn't fit. GLAD WE DID BUY IT! This saved my baby from those hurtful bumps, she hit the table few times and didn't even cry. Just for that, I can say I got my money's worth. Fits our 160-inch table, my husband just attached around 4 mounting tape strips to secure it more firmly.

5.0 out of 5 stars used it for 5 yrs and is great!!, July 8, 2004

This review is from: Safety 1st Table Edge Bumper - Medium (Baby Product)
Five years ago when my daughter started cruising/walking (she's almost six now) I looked everywhere for a table edge bumper. I found the ones that stick to the table's edge but thought it won't work. Finally I found this one on just one website (wasn't that widely available back then I guess)! I took the chance of ordering it and now five years later I am extremely glad I did. First, we gave away our wrought iron/glass top coffee table(thought it wasn't infant-friendly) and got a square table with round corners and a little round sides. But still my daughter kept on bumping her head. This is when I got this table edge. Our table's circumference is 132". So I ordered the small size for a snug fit (I thought if it doesn't fit I'll use it for the side table). Luckily it fit perfectly snug. There's no way my daughter can pull it and get her head or other parts trapped. Our side table's circumference is 96" and I tried to fit it on but was a little loose (the child can easily pull it).
It does work for every shape table (round, rectangular, square, oval,...). After five years of continuous use with our tom boy rambauctious daughter it started ripping at the center sewing line. Now I am buying a new one for our son who's just starting to cruise/walk. Couldn't be happier with that purchase.
I think if your table's circumference is closer to the lower range of the suggested fitting size then the bumper will be loose fitting. Try sewing the extras like one reviewer did. every single one of our friends with toddlers got a similar one. I am very happy to find it more available than 5 years ago. Worth every penny. It saved our daughter countless bumps over the years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Saves lots of bumps, July 25, 2001

We have an 11 month old daughter who loves to climb on the couch. She has had a few near-spills with the edge of the coffee table, but thanks to this padding, she has been injury- free. The only problems we've had with the bumper is 1) we have a fairly good sized coffee table, and mistakenly got the medium, exchanged it for the small, and still was a bit big; and 2) crumbs, dust, etc. seems to collect between the table and the pad, and we are constantly having to remove it to clean.

I'm ordering a 2nd one! This cushiony guard really protects your child and it is easy to install. It is also easy to take off if you are expecting company and don't want your house to look like a play yard!

2.0 out of 5 stars nice, but has it's problems, February 28, 2006

This review is from: Safety 1st Table Edge Bumper - Medium (Baby Product)
I bought both the small and med bumper to see which would fit my 150" coffee table with very sharp edges. The small would not fit at all. And the med was too big, the long sides hung down. I ended up taking apart the med sz bumper and removing apx 20". It was difficult and not a job for a beginner sewer and it was difficult to get through the sewing machine. I also used a needle for sewing leather. The fit is now as tight as it can be. But even so, the bumper on the long sides of the table can still be pulled down by the baby. She grabs it to pull herself up and then wobbles by the table holding the bumper just waiting to wack the table with her face. Well at least the corners are protected.

My last complaint is that it is very ugly. So I sewed a fabric sleeve to cover it. I couldn't separate the bumper (even when I took it apart to make it smaller because I couldn't sew through the bunge cord on the inside to secure it) so I had to sew the sleeve around the bumper. Difficult and a pain in the butt, but not impossible. It looks one hundred times better now. I sewed a brown fabric on it so it blends in well with my mission style coffee table. It's way better than ugly grey vinyl!!

Would I do this all over again. Probably yes because for the most part, unless baby is in the very middle of the long edge of the table it does protect her, BUT I'd definately complain about having to go through it all again.
