5.0 out of 5 stars User error makes this product look bad..it's not...
My six month old son Darren Jr. has outgrown his infant bath tub...We have purchased this wonderful bath seat to introduce him to the "big boy tub" and he loves it...splashes and laughs the whole bath time...unlike the infant bathtub that caused the kitchen to "flood" (haha) when he splashed...

I am overwhelmed with things to say after reading reviews on this...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good fit
Seems like a useful product, but when the elbow rest is placed over the edge of the tub, the little seat is not flush with the bottom of the bathtub. A bad pinching hazard. So I returned it and figured lots of people with standard bathtubs will have the same problem. The depth between edge of tub and bottom of tub was too great for even the tallest setting. A shame...

I am overwhelmed with things to say after reading reviews on this seat...

I noticed that alot of the complaints about this seat are from user error...

Things people have complained (c.) about and my opinion (o.)...

c. Seat does not fit their tub...

o. Common sense tells you that if you have a garden tub or anything like it...you shouldn't expect this product to fit...

c. Mildew forms in and on seat...

o. Where there's water... there's mildew...This is not a flaw in the product...

(To clean the seat...fill the tub with hot water and add some bleach and let it soak)OBVIOUSLY NOT WITH BABY IN OR AROUND TUB DURING CLEANING

c. Child gets stuck in seat...

o. Obviously if your supervising your child close enough...how would they beable to arrange their body in a way that they can get stuck?? The swivel option should be "locked" to prevent any injuries during bathing...

c. Child stands up (someone recommended a seatbelt)

o. Another common sense solution...If your child can pull up and out of this seat...they are to old for the seat...strapping a baby in water with a seatbelt sounds very unsafe to me...

c. Seat won't work without arm (someone said they took off arm because it wouldn't fit their tub)

o. Now this one made me the most mad...Who would buy a product and take it apart because it doesn't fit??...HELLO...It doesn't fit...bring it back...give it away...you can't take it apart and expect it to work...It does not have suction cups so how would you expect it to stay put?? It is designed to be anchored to the side of the tub...if it doesn't it's not the bath seat for you...

c. Seat is to high for babies to reach toys and tub needs to be full...

o. If the seat was any lower...all the reviews would say..."my baby can fall out" it's designed to keep baby safe and secure...what's the big deal about filling the tub up?? If the baby is supervised than why does it matter if you have an inch of water or ten inches of water...????

c. Can't clean baby below waist...

o. Another complaint that is not a flaw in the product...any bath ring or seat will prevent bathing the genitals...Easy solution...bath child fully and leave genitals for last...so as your taking baby out of ring you can clean genitals before exiting the tub...What's so hard about that??

I have also used the Gerry bath ring with the flip open front that has suction cups on the bottom...I would also recommend this bath ring...although it is no longer sold (used it with my daughter who is turning 8 this month)...but you can find it on Ebay :o) Also has problem with mildew on underside ...just clean it...no big deal...Anything that is in water over and over will develope a mildew problem...keep it clean...nothing hard...

I hope my review helps someone in the decision to purchase this seat...Keep in mind not every product is for everybody...make sure your tub and child are compatable with this bath seat...

You and your child will enjoy this seat at bathtime...I know we do...

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable for the baby, comfortable on the parents!, May 2, 2004
This review is from: Safety 1st Tubside Bath Seat (Pamphlet)
When our six-month old was an infant, we bathed him in a typical baby bathtub, but he outgrew that one rather quick (he is a tall/heavy boy) and it was beginning to become uncomfortable for him, so we recently got this tubside bath seat for him. He sits inside a ring that holds him (up to what age, still remains to be seen), has room for his legs to stick out, while it gives us room to clean his head and back, and we can rotate the ring with him inside as needed.

So far, he's loving it (I guess, the fact that it allows him to sit in water helps) as he can splash and play with his bath toys, while we can get him clean for his nightsleep. The two challenges we've found are cleaning his belly (since he's compelled to be pushing it against the front of the ring, trying to reach his toys) and getting him into the seat (getting his legs in the proper spots), but this last thing is something that almost ALL seating gear for babies have an "issue" with.

In any case, two words of advice:
1) Measure your bathtub, to make sure the seat fits it. I can see how some other reviewers might have had a hard time with this, since it doesn't seem to fit all sizes.
2) If you get it, when you use it, never leave your baby unattended, no matter how safe or great it feels (which it does!)
Otherwise, highly recommendable. Enjoyable for the baby, comfortable on the parents! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tub for our Irish Twins!, November 26, 2005
This review is from: Safety 1st Tubside Bath Seat (Pamphlet)
We have two babies- 11 months old and 22 months old. I'm really surprised to read the other reviews about their babies getting stuck and this not being big enough. Our 11 month old weighs 25 pounds and our 22 month old weighs 23 lbs. (He's a big baby and she's a petite toddler) Both children use this during bathtime and I've never had any trouble getting them in or out.

This tub is so sturdy and secure. I love that it attaches to the outside of the tub to keep it from moving around. A really excellent tub for using once your baby is sitting up- it allows them to safely play in the tub, splash around, etc. without slipping or sliding.

2.0 out of 5 stars Much Safer than the Old Rings, February 20, 2004

At least your child can't flip face forward into the tub if it looses suction on the botton of the tub. I thought this was be great for my daughter. She loves to sit up. The seat is reccomended for 5 - 10 months. My daughter will be 6 months next week. I found it difficult to get my daughter out of the ring after the bath. The seat didn't fit flush with the bottom of the tub. I did not like it. I will probably return it. I have only used it once so far.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as great as the old blue seat, June 25, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Safety 1st Tubside Bath Seat (Pamphlet)
After receiving the older model which I call the "blue bathing ring" as a shower gift, I discovered that it would not work in my non-skid tub. I purchased the tubside bath seat because my son is over 20 lbs. and outgrew 2 baby tubs by five months. What I don't like about the seat is basically what has been mentioned already.

The seat is bulky, much more plastic than the older model which makes it difficult to clean hard to reach spots on the baby. You have to make sure you dump out any water which may remain the hidden parts of the seat.

The armrest gets in the way of bathing.

The baby's weight is supposed to make the seat push down, but until my baby got used to the seat he would slide forward causing the area between his legs to push up against the seat. I am constantly repositioning him, and he is a fairly good sitter. Plus, I can never get the right amount of water in the tub with this seat to really cover the area between his legs.

The seat is not awful, I still consider it a safe way to bathe your child if you are not comfortable hanging on to them in the big tub. I just wish that the older model worked in my tub. I use the "blue" ring at the grandparent's houses, and it is way easier to bathe my child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bath seat ever!, July 23, 2004
By
This review is from: Safety 1st Tubside Bath Seat (Pamphlet)
I read some of the negative reviews and was hesitant to purchase this but boy am I glad that I bought it. I had the old style (blue) bath seat for my daughter and feel that this one is far superior. I read that some people have trouble fitting into their tub, but if yours is standard it will fit (it fits both my tub and the tub at my in-laws). Also it is very secure. The old style would lose suction and float up dumping my daughter on her side so I could never leave her side. This one fits snugly on the side of the tub and I feel comfortable watching my daughter and son (in the seat) play in the tub while sitting in the bathroom rather than breaking my back hovering over the tub. This seat like any bathseat requires some patience when washing your baby, but with practice I can even wash my baby's bottom by tilting him back and side to side. I also have never had it leave red marks on my son anywhere, so not sure what the other reviewers were doing wrong. If you pull your baby back and then slightly up while lifting them out you shouldn't scrape any part of the seat. Even so, this seat has all edges nicely rounded to prevent scrapes. I don't believe the old style was this way...I remember scraping my daughter onece before I leaned the trick to revoming her.

All in all I am very happy with this product and feel that it is very safe. The armrest is kinda nice too!

3.0 out of 5 stars needs improvement, June 28, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Safety 1st Tubside Bath Seat (Pamphlet)
I have a 6 month old who is just learning how to sit up on his own. This seat is good in some ways, but is still frustrating every time I use it! It is the only baby bath I have found that allows my son to sit without slipping and falling over and allows me to concentrate on cleaning him without having to constantly hold him up the whole time. However, it is very difficult to clean his front because he wants to lean forward to reach his toys and there is too much plastic in the way to be able to clean him at the same time so I have to make him lean back which he is not happy about. Also, I find that the plastic edge of the leg holes is kind of sharp and can scrape him if he rubs his legs up against it when getting into the seat. I think they just need to make a couple of improvements to make it a very good product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall....We Love It!, July 7, 2004
By
LadyJen (Allentown, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Safety 1st Tubside Bath Seat (Pamphlet)
We purchased this bath seat for our 6 month old son (20lbs & 30" long) when he outgrew and became too active for his newborn tub. I love the fact that it keeps him mostly in place. He's very active (sometimes overly active) and I was very nervous to make the change from the little tub to our big adult bath tub. Visions of my little guy slipping or drowning kept making me prolong the change....but eventually -we had no choice. He doesn't seem to have a problem when I put him into the seat....I just have to guide his legs into the holes. As other parents mentioned in their reviews...
1.) it is indeed a little hard to wash his front "boy parts" and his hiney when his sitting down, but at that point...I just lift him out a little, hold him with one arm and wash him up & spray him off. I do get a little wet myself, but the piece of mind knowing that my son is sitting supported and cannot slip and drown or hit his little head is well worth it.
2.) the edges around the leg holes do seem a little sharp, but I'm just careful when I put him in and take him out. I wish it was more smooth
3.) the fact that it swivels is nice. When I clamp the seat at the midle of the tub...I can move his direction from facing the front or the back.....making it fun when he tries going after his toys
4.) someone mentioned that they didn't like that the baby was reaching over to get toys....and his tummy & chest got all red. Well, just imagine your child in the tub.....all wet.....squirming to get a toy and they slip out of your hands because a wet baby is the most slippery thing ever...and he or she bonks their head....that would heave a bump or even a bruise. I'd rather have a slight red mark that disappears in about 10 minutes. If reaching over for the toys really hurt my son....I would imagine that getting that toy wouldn't be so important.....plus - you could always move the toys closer.
5.) Also, I would not recommend (as a previous parent did) filling the water up to baby's arms. if baby leaned over to get a toy......they he could still then put his face in the water. A baby can drown in ONE INCH of water! So, personally, I just put enough to cover his legs.

Lastly, the only real thing i don't like is that my son seems to get one arm occassionally caught between the seat and the part that goes over the tub. It's not a big deal because I'm right there watching him, but I'd just prefer to not have his arm get caught like that. Also, the tub does retain some water...so I just leave it in the bathtubtub while the it is draing, flip over the seat to get all of the water out afterwards, shake it around a little and set it upside down on a towel for a little bit before putting away. Sounds like a lot of work for a little seat, but it's worth it!

I would recommend this tub....to anyone concerned about a slippery baby in tub full of water. Sometimes, when our son is being irratable or fussy....I put him in the tub seat with this toys and he has a ball splashing around in the water. Seems to forget what he was so fussy about.

:)
Good Luck!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product- when you follow the directions!, August 31, 2005
This review is from: Safety 1st Tubside Bath Seat (Pamphlet)
My husband and I got this seat for my son when he outgrew his baby bathtub at 6 months and have been using it for the last two months. I was looking for something sturdy and safe to hold my strong and rather large son. Compared to other products on the market this was one of the nicer ones I found. Other posts have complained about mold and mildew buildup but I have not found this to be the case at all. The instructions ask you to remove the seat, drain the excess water, rinse and dry it after each use. Yes a lot of work but well worth it and once you get into the habit doesn't take long at all. The elbow rest is a great feature too- I have lower back problems and being able to use the armrest seems to make bathtime easier. It can be difficult to reach some areas to bathe once in the seat but we work around it by lifting him up or not filling the tub with too much water. All and all a great product and it makes bathtime one of the more fun parts of our day!
