I was dead set on an AIR branded car seat for our infant daughter. I used the AIR seat for our toddler and after one of them kept her safe through a collision a couple years ago I have swore by them. My issue with the infant variant is they are not easy to clean and they are quite expensive for so few features. After reading review after review after review I ended up with an onBoard 35. Half the price, same seat as the AIR without the AIR feature on the sides, and easy to clean.

Like most parents, I researched car seats for ages before choosing the Safety First onBoard35 for my 3rd daughter. I wanted something that most importantly would be safe, have an extended rear facing limit, be comfortable for the baby, and comfortable to carry.

Safety: as far as safety, this car seat has been brilliant. It is not difficult to install and has an easy to read indicator to insure it s fitted properly. I do find the car seat rides more upright than others we have used but it don't seem to bother my daughter.

35 pound limit: my daughter fit in this well as an 8 pound 13 oz newborn and fits just as well with room to grow as a 24 pound 14 month old.

Comfort for baby: my daughter gets rather sweaty riding in this seat and seems to get uncomfortable on long journeys. The padding is thin and she is quick to get indentations on her bottom and legs after a 30 minute journey.

Comfort for parents: Ths seat is more awkward to carry than other infant seats I have used. There is no shape to the handle whatsoever and also no padding or grip. This part although frivolous I found especially odd as the handle seems like it should have some type of grip which is missing. However, I contacted the company who say there never has been any grip.

To summarise, if I could give this seat 3.9 stars I would, but it just isn't worth that 4th star to me. Safety wise it has proven a good seat which is the most important aspect. The limited comfort for both child and parent is what I really dislike about this seat. I would not go out of my way to recommend this seat to parents but I also would not recommend against it.

I bought one of these about 2 years ago for my first child and the quality was much better. The fabric was softer (think cotton vs. nylon), felt more padded, and it featured a soft, non-slip grip on the handle. The AIR version existed when I bought the first one, but I didn't see much difference between the two...

Now, 2 years later I purchased this exact model for baby #2 and was very disappointed. The fabric (while attractive looking) is not very soft, feels cheap, and there is no grip on the handle. To get these features now, you HAVE to buy the AIR version... which, if you shop around, you can find for only about $40 more. It's definitely worth the extra money IMO. My daughter was in her onboard35 until 14 months, and having a soft fabric that baby will want to sleep on, and a soft handle that makes the carrier comfortable to hold, was a must-have for me.

We really liked the design and the sturdy construction of the car seat, and Safety 1st was highly rated on all the sites we checked. The problem was that the seat was so long, we couldn't comfortably have it in the back seat and not eat the steering wheel of our Honda Accord. We even looked at other vehicles to put the car seats in (we have two kids, so we couldn't just use one side) and none fit but full size SUV's. We ended up getting a smaller Graco car seat that fit much better.

I bought this car seat to use with my grandchild. He was born a little early and was small but long. He fit nicely in this seat at birth (5# 14 oz) and still is quite comfortable in it at 10# and 20.5". I expect to be able to use it for quite some time. His dad is very tall so the notation that this seat had more leg room was a plus in choosing the seat.

I purchased two bases so we could keep the base in the car and move the car seat to whichever vehicle we were using. That is working out perfectly. We've been using it for about 6 weeks. It goes in the back seat and is so easy to move once you know how to do it. It seems sturdy and comfortable. Besides being functional the design is nice.

The top of the car seat fits close to the back of the front seats. I am short so that has not been a problem for me. The front seat is pulled up close to the steering wheel to accommodate my short legs. Also, the middle seat of my CR-V has only one latch. When we had the seat inspected, they told us to use the latch from the nearest seat as the second latch. This makes the available space smaller on one side of the vehicle. That is not a problem with the car seat itself though, but rather with my vehicle. However, if you plan to use the latch attachment, you might check your vehicle and find the latches first.

The base of this car seat is HUGH. This is its only real drawback. When the seat is installed you will not be able to adjust the seat in front. (driver/front passenger seat) I've used this seat in a BMW x1 and a BMW x3 and you have to move the seat up A LOT for this car seat to fit. So any front passenger I have are pretty much in the dash. Unfortunately, I see myself having to buy another car seat very soon
