Our time travelers from the first two books of The Safety Factor series try to make a home for themselves there, but are confronted by the enormous changes in the world and the human psyche.
Global warming has buried most of the old cities underwater, creating a new shoreline, where most of the inhabitants of the world live. The interiors of all the continents are so hot and barren that almost nobody lives there. Humanity is “served” by a race of intelligent, genetically engineered chimpanzees, with a series of even more intelligent gorillas ready to be released into the world. Our 18th and 21st century time travelers unwittingly become embroiled in a struggle for world domination, orchestrated by the same secret society that ended the last civilization (our civilization).
