Product Description

It is the year 2449. Civilization has fallen. Earth's population has been reduced to about what it was during the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans. The people are in the midst of building a new civilization based largely on the technology of the old world, most of which has managed to survive the intervening years. Our time travelers from the first two books of The Safety Factor series try to make a home for themselves there, but are confronted by the enormous changes in the world and the human psyche.

Global warming has buried most of the old cities underwater, creating a new shoreline, where most of the inhabitants of the world live. The interiors of all the continents are so hot and barren that almost nobody lives there. Humanity is “served” by a race of intelligent, genetically engineered chimpanzees, with a series of even more intelligent gorillas ready to be released into the world. Our 18th and 21st century time travelers unwittingly become embroiled in a struggle for world domination, orchestrated by the same secret society that ended the last civilization (our civilization). Can humanity’s experience from the past, as embodied in our heroes and heroines, keep history from repeating itself?

Will there ever be an end to the cycle of empire building, prosperity, decline and collapse that the human race has experienced so often? Is it even possible for humanity to build a stable government, economy or civilization? In this, the third book of The Safety Factor series, lies a frank and potent examination of many areas of the human experience.

Jerry Travis is a writer and information technology consultant working for private industry and the government all over the United States. Some of the more interesting places he has worked at are The Aerospace Corporation, Los Alamos, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, and the Department of Energy. He has a knack for making complex material both comprehensible and interesting.

Josephine Mayes is a comedian, scriptwriter and social worker in Hollywood.

Sheila Pfeiffer is an artist, poet and legal secretary living in Las Vegas.

Maria Savva is a writer of several published books (Coincidences, A Time to Tell, Pieces of a Rainbow) and a solicitor living on London.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Safety Factor, July 30, 2009
This review is from: Safety Factor 3 (Beyond Perfection) (Kindle Edition)
The final book in the series, The Safety Factor Book III (Beyond Perfection) takes the reader to a future world where talking monkeys serve humans, and genetically engineered gorillas are being produced to do the work that the monkeys cannot do. We join the characters from Book II, who have escaped to this new world. This book reads much more like a science-fiction book than any of the others in the series. It contains a great deal of philosophical dicussion, and scientific detail which will appeal to readers of science-fiction. It is an interesting tale, speculating on what the world will be like in the future in the aftermath of global warming and destruction by war. It is an exploration into whether it would ever be possible to build a civilisation that will last, given that human behaviour never changes. It is a book about betrayal, trust and hope, and also about love. The writers have used the future world as a setting, to put across their view of the world and the reason our society is so unstable. There is a twist at the end, in the epilogue. It appears to have been left open for a future book to be added to this complex and entertaining series.
