1.0 out of 5 stars Junk
Screws snapped in half while screwing brackets into wall. Much more complicated product than needs to be. Does not hold furniture tight against the wall. My Ikea furniture came with free safety straps that are much better than these.

We have these straps all over our house (on every piece of furniture taller than two feet), because we have two "climbers." There have been two occasions that I know of where these saved my eldest daughter from injury, as she climbed large pieces of furniture.

The hardest part of installing these is finding them. We searched several local stores, with little luck - and a few odd looks, as salespersons didn't understand why we would want to strap our furniture to the walls when we don't live in an earthquake zone. But trust me, once you find somewhere that sells them, buy them up. Once you see how well they work, you will become addicted to testing to see if you can tip your furniture - and will want them everywhere.

Sold in pairs, you should use both on a single piece of furniture. Comes with all necessary hardware, including screws. Once installed, you can't really tell they are there. However, it takes a little bit of space to get your hand behind the furniture to tighten the straps on install, so it's difficult to get them fully tightened. In other words, with furtniture pressed up against the wall, you (or your kids) will still be able to tilt or lean the furniture, but only a couple of inches -- it shouldn't tip over. Overall, a good product that is reasonably easy to install.

Amazing to me that such a necessary product is so hard to find locally -- thank goodness for Amazon!

Hardest part was finding the wall stud - straps installed easily and are adjustable. We used it to attach a 6' bookcase in our toddler's room. Would definietely recommend these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for kids who climb, February 1, 2010

I purchased the safety 1st wall straps because my 2 year old son started climbing on his tv stand. I received a package of two straps, my husband installed them fairly easily, the hardest part was digging out the stud finder. We bought another set to put onto his dresser, because I anticipate my son's interest in climbing will not be confined to one article of furniture. After installation, we both pulled on the furniture and it seemed as though it was not going anywhere, so I am pleased with my purchase and I would recommend these to anyone who has a child that has King Kong tendencies.

Excellent product and easy to install. You will need 2-3 straps for most large furniture. Well worth the peace of mind. Directions are well written. You will need a drill, screwdriver and stud finder. Amazon was much cheaper than Babies R Us when I purchased mine, and the shipping was free. Thanks!

You do need a studfinder and a drill. But they were relatively easy to install and I am not so nervous when the baby crawls around in the room with bookshelves.

I purchased several different types of anti tip furniture straps, this was the most expensive, but seemed very sturdy. I used both straps for a very large piece of furniture.

4.0 out of 5 stars You may need different screws, but a good product overall, January 4, 2012
This review is from: Furniture Wall Straps (Misc.)
These are very well-designed. Easy to install and gives you a bit of room behind the furniture to access plugs and such.

We did have problems with the screws breaking, but only when we were trying to install the straps on older, brittle wood furniture. When we attached the straps to our new dresser, the screws went in amazingly easily. So if you have older wood furniture (or wall studs, for that matter) go and buy some proper wood screws and use those instead!

You can never be too careful when you have toddlers at home. I'm not one of those moms that has the entire house baby proofed. I believe more in teaching my child to not touch certain things so that when we go to other people's home that are not baby proofed, she will "survive". However, these come in handy since most little ones are big into climbing.

Was able to secure a 6 foot bookcase without any issues. Screws were not a problem. Always possible for a long screw to break, just drill a pilot hole. Straps seemed sturdy. If you want them flush to the wall, you need to install the wall piece well below the piece attached to the unit (several inches.)
