Book Description

Succeed in your course using this lab manual's unique blend of laboratory skills and exercises that effectively illustrate concepts from the main text, CHEMISTRY FOR TODAY: GENERAL, ORGANIC, AND BIOCHEMISTRY, 7e. The book's 15 general chemistry and 20 organic/biochemistry safety-scale laboratory experiments use small quantities of chemicals and emphasize safety and proper disposal of materials. "Safety-scale' is the authors' own term for describing the amount of chemicals each lab experiment requires--less than macroscale quantities, which are expensive and hazardous, and more than microscale quantities, which are difficult to work with and require special equipment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Safety-Scale Chemistry Lab Experiments Review February 5, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The experiments were fun to reproduce. Easy to follow instructions with thought provoking questions allow the student to apply the priniciples learned in class to the real world.

1.0 out of 5 stars Imprecise, Illogical, Poor Explanations March 31, 2012
Format:Paperback
I received an "A" in Chemistry, but regarding the lab portion, it is impossible to score well, not because the student doesn't understand the material, but because the author of this book cannot clearly communicate what he's looking for, for the "right answers." This book makes the student obsess over what he/she thinks the author might want, versus what is the true answer. Because of the poorly written text, this book isn't a good foundation to begin a medical career. The best textbook are those that have precisely written questions and clean text. I think it is especially important for the foundational classes so one does not become frusterated or have their career affected so early on. Although it may be innocent on the author's part, unfortunately, this lab book doesn't deliver. My advice is, any student who wishes to build a serious career in medicine should avoid this book at all costs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Not Allowed in Labs June 20, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What's the point? You are not allowed to use a Kindle in most labs, and you need to write on and or tear out the sheets!
