5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable and Meticulous Resource on Stalking, November 27, 2001

This review is from: Safety for Stalking Victims: How to save your privacy, your sanity, and your life (Paperback)
This book is a well written guide for anyone involved in the trauma of stalking--and not just the kind you see in those lame TV movies. In addition to providing victims with checklists, how-tos and what-not-to-dos, this would also be a good book for anyone who who knows someone in trouble--significant others, co-workers, family and friends. Bates' opinions are backed up with no-nonsense reasoning and this would also be an excellent book for anyone who writes fiction and wants to use a stalking plot. Each chapter builds the "story" of stalking, from recognizing its signs to coming away safe and each is presented in a useful way, highlighting action items the victim can take to stay safe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of sound advice., September 7, 2011

This review is from: Safety for Stalking Victims: How to save your privacy, your sanity, and your life (Paperback)
This is readable and practical and genuine.

It is for the classic police-acknowledged single-stalker situation mostly. It is less appropriate for exceptional stalking situations where there are a bunch of people involved (group stalking, cause stalking or organised stalking...) It is, however, useful for those too.

Stalking brings stress, even if you are the firm confident sort. The stress can make you forget whole bits of self-protection that you really do know. That's when you need a book like this. It reminds you of those basics and suggests a few new ones.

For cause stalking, a good book is David Lawson's "Cause Stalking" which is pocketbook-sized, brisk, and to the point, with lots of good advice. Furthermore, it has helpful insights into why a group might be doing this to you. The man who wrote it comes from a background both of investigating and getting close to organised stalking groups.

Don't forget the web-based discussion groups, too, which, though they can be riddled with phonies, plants, idiots and pretenders, have some people of astonishing ability who can be a lifeline.

I ran across this book while writing my latest novel. One of my main characters was being stalked by a serial killer and I needed to know how stalkers operate. Lyn's book told me all I needed to know. I highly recommend it.
