I have used several different kinds of cartridges over the years in my line of work (drywall finisher). These cartridges have been the best I've used, hands down. The main problem with most others is clogging. Replacing them often leads to money out of pocket and labored breathing. These cartridges last longer and clog less than any others I've used, in turn making breathing easier throughout it's lifespan.

I own an insulation install company, so believe me when I say this, I know what I'm talking about. I've been in the business for over ten years and, needles to say, have tried every half-face respirator in the market.

I wear a mask every single day and those disposable 3m masks don't cut it. They trap your breath in so the first part of every inhalation is part of your last exhalation which stinks when working in a hot environment. Also they are not as durable as using a half-face respirator like these filters fit. Worst of all, no matter how your face is shaped, dust and dirt (or in my case fiberglass particles) will find their way around the edges of the mask.

Remember, these filters will not protect you from paint fumes or other hazardous vapors, but if you are looking to stop any type of small particles from entering your body, BUY THESE FILTERS along with the mask they fit. The filters themselves are light weight, and low profile so they don't get in the way of your vision and lets you fit into tight spots if need be. Take it from me, you can't go wrong with these!

In the desert, where I reside, dust abounds. It is easier to clean porches and patios with a blower. Prior to using this respirator I had severe allergy problems after performing the task of blowing the dust & debris from various locations on my property. Since using the respirator all problems are non-existent. I would certainly recommend this item to any one in a similar situation, although I feel certain that there are numerous other applications. I would recommend the purchase of **several** replacement filters.

My mother was a hoarder of the extreme kind. And worse, I am sensitive to allergens and had to clean the place (still am). These cartridges and their mask are excellent. I have problems with my throat and nose if I do not wear these in most situations inside. Not only do they keep allergens out, I find they even eliminate wood smoke from the wood stove, which I am also very sensitive to. So from my point of view, whether you have respiratory problems, allergies, and the like, these are wonderful. They work. I have bought 8 sets so far. They will clog if there is lots of junk in the air. But they spare your lungs. I like that!

My wife and I have been renovating a 90-year old Washington, DC rowhouse for the last year, and couldn't get by without these. The most important thing was to find cartridges that would protect against lead paint dust, as our house is filled with it -- and I'm stripping more of it off all the time.

There's not a whole lot to say about these, other than the fact that I can tell they work like a champ with the MSA Safety Works 817664 Toxic Dust Respirator. I get no dust around my mouth and they make a great seal on the respirator. They pop off and on easily and with little fuss. Can't think of anything I'd change about these, having gone through about 3-4 pairs in the last year. They seem to last awhile, but that's wholly dependent on how much dust you're working around and how fast they fill up. The opening on both sides will allow you to spray some of the trapped dust out with an air compressor to extend their life, if you want to save a few bucks. (But do that outside! Toxic dust, remember!)

I'll certainly be back for pairs 5 and 6 and beyond.

I carve with a dremmel, lots of dust. I found this respirator to be light weight and comfortable. Bought extra filters which are easy to change but have yet to need to change them.

I have several respirators for woodworking and spray painting. These cartridges work great for the fine dust of woodworking.

I have other respirators that work for both dust and solvents, but the cannisters are much larger. While they do not have a major impact on my field of vision, they are less comfortable when wearing for a long time - don't know if it is a touch of claustrophobia, or the same sensation I get when a tall person is blocking part of the screen at a movie. But these smaller cannisters don't distract me at all, and I'll wear them for hours at a time without issue.

As for life span of cartridge, I probably use them longer than intended service life, but I do occasionally clean my mask and switch out the cartridges. Never had a problem with them functioning, and I test all seals prior to work.

If it's comfortable, you will use it. So, if you have to work in a dusty environment, go for these. You don't need solvent cannisters when you are working with dust. Buy a separate mask, and it'll make your work more bearable.

If you are working in a dusty or toxic like area you better be using a respirator. And in time you better be changing those filters. The life on those little disks is short and it is your lungs we are talking about here. Just do it. You will live longer and know you are taking care with volitile items
