Do note that I did not purchase this on Amazon but in the grocery store in Los Angeles.

I have a tough time finding good asian sauces, starters etc, where I live so when I went home to Los Angeles, I stocked up on brands I knew and gave a few brands a try. This one was a major mistake. I didn't taste the sauce prior to pouring it over the meat and veggies so I either had to throw it away or find a way to alter the recipe and save the meal I had just prepared.

It took a cup of coconut milk, 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, 1/2 a lime and tons of chopped cilantro to make this edible. Once I was done tweaking it it turned out pretty good which is why I didn't give it 1 star. It can be salvaged but who would want to do that when there are some perfectly good sauces out there that require no extra labor?

The other saffron road sauces are excellent and spot on (tikka masala and Rojas josh). This one is slightly too sweet. I temper it with some fresh lemon juice added in at the last moment so that the other ingredients don't separate

I was just looking for Saffron Road simmer sauces as my supply is getting low when I saw 3 stars on this one and had to add my 2 cents worth. I was introduced to these sauces via a 40% off offer from Gluten Free Savers. All the ones I tried are delicious. While the Moroccan Tangine (3% carbohydrate) is a little sweet to my taste, I thought this one was fabulous with the basil and lemongrass flavors delightfully spot on. I used it with chicken which I think is the best choice for this sauce. I don't recall it tasting sweet and the ingredients claim only 1% carbohydrate.

One packet will serve two hungry adults or perhaps a family with the addition of more vegetables- broccoli and leeks would be nice in this sauce.

I went to the Saffron Road website to get the nutritional information and see they have all kinds of other yummy treats- turkish figs with goat cheese appetizers, Tandoori chicken nuggets...I'd like to try them all but just noticed that the pastry wrapped appetizers are not gluten free while the chicken nuggets are. Check the gluten free list at the website.

If you are fond of the indian simmer sauces like I am, then you may wish to buy one of these first, before committing to a case like I did. The whole packet overwhelmed the chicken I simmered it in and rather than providing a light, lemongrass flavor, tasted thick and gummy.
