Buy it for the photographs; read it for enlightenment! Tilak Hettige has successfully combined his keen photographer's eye with a written text which is both educational and personal. He guides the reader on a thoroughly beautiful and spiritual journey. A worthwhile addition to any library or coffee table.

Saffron Robes, A Photo Essay,
By Chanakarn "Chanakarn Khu" (Bangkok, Thailand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saffron Robes: A Photographic Essay on Buddhist Monks (Hardcover)
Recently, I have taken a keen interest to know more about the way
other people in Asia live their lives; particularly the way they practice their religions. I was able to read this book, Saffron Robes, and it gave me insight into how one becomes a monk, and the journey that goes with it. Also, it gave me a glimpse of different places I would definitely like to see for myself after seeing all the great pictures that are inside the book.

About Saffron Robes,
By Dennis Guevara "DenG." (Philippines) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saffron Robes: A Photographic Essay on Buddhist Monks (Hardcover)
This book, more than any other I have ever read, integrates the
spiritual practices of Buddhism into the way monks live their daily lives. Through the author's display of photographs, one would be able to fully appreciate the journey one has to take to be able to wear a Saffron Robe.

As they say, pictures are worth a thousand words, and
Saffron Robes is a prime example of how pictures can tell a story. The reader is captured with the pictures inside. Not only are they a treat to your eyes but the pictures provide an experience for the spirit.

A great book on Buddhism,
By Albert Morgan (Washington, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saffron Robes: A Photographic Essay on Buddhist Monks (Hardcover)
I must say that the author is a gifted artist, the image entitled, "Ambition" moved me to tears. The composition and lighting of the photo really brought the child to life. You can really sense what this youngster intends to do. The book leaves you wanting to know more about the way monks live their lives.

I bought this book in kathmandu, Nepal last week. Really like this creative combination--touching pictures with touching short essay.
