4.0 out of 5 stars nice companion to the saga
It has become something of a fad for authors to have graphic novel "prequels" released for their popular series. The Dresden Files, Mercy Thompson, The Hallows and Anita Blake all have a graphic novel that takes place before the series begins. This is billed the same, however, it actually includes minor spoilers for the first two books. This is a problem because if you...

1.0 out of 5 stars Failed Alliances
This is a comic book. Unfortunately I did not discover this until after I had placed my order, for this product but thought "Hey it's still SoSS of it's bound to be good right?"
Wrong. Or rather, it was OK but nothing more than that. The drawings are good, but the story is nowhere to be found. If this work is designed to draw readers into the series, I fear it has...

1.0 out of 5 stars Failed Alliances, February 19, 2005
This review is from: The Saga of Seven Suns: Veiled Alliances (Hardcover)
This is a comic book. Unfortunately I did not discover this until after I had placed my order, for this product but thought "Hey it's still SoSS of it's bound to be good right?"
Wrong. Or rather, it was OK but nothing more than that. The drawings are good, but the story is nowhere to be found. If this work is designed to draw readers into the series, I fear it has failed. Not only does it offer HUGE spoilers but it fails to bring out the most basic intrigues and plots that make the series great. Words cannot express my extreme dissapointment when I read a $12.00 comic book that offered me nothing that I hadn't alreadr read in the novels.

If you like pretty pictures this product is for you.
To the rest of the SoSS fans, skip it. And to you who haven't read SoSS, go pick up a copy of Hidden Empire today!

3.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!-IF YOU'VE ALREADY READ BOOKS ONE AND TWO, February 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Saga of Seven Suns: Veiled Alliances (Hardcover)
As a fan of both comic books and of Kevin J. Anderson , (Star Wars, Dune and now Saga of Seven Suns), this was pure heaven for me. So why did i give it only three stars?

If you have already read the books: You will find that you already know most of the story. Most of it was given as backround informaition in the books it is quite predictible. But still will be understandable, and worth your time, Some of the art is truely incredible.

If You have yet to read the books: I know that this is a prequil, and your probably thinking it's just the thing to get you into the siries. Unfortoneatly it contains NUMEROUS SPOILERS that will seriously increase the perdictsbillity of the books which by the way contains some great plot twists. I would recomend the first book Hidden Empire, ehich starts off slow but really kicks it off the siries well, and will have you ichicng for Horriozon Storms (book three) in no time.

-Even though it has its fualts i think this is a valuable entry into the Saga of Seven Suns universe. As i said befor some of the art is great, and it really fleshes out the beginings of the story well-

The Dresden Files, Mercy Thompson, The Hallows and Anita Blake all have a graphic novel that takes place before the series begins. This is billed the same, however, it actually includes minor spoilers for the first two books. This is a problem because if you have read the series, there is nothing new here, and if you haven't, some surprises will be lost. That said, this is worthwhile to pick up. The alternate format is a nice contrast to text heavy novels and the artwork is simply stunning - clean, well drawn, and richly detailed. The book is full color throughout, on glossy pages. The plot is limited, but clearly revealed, and leads directly into the series. This is a nice companion to Anderson's rich and sprawling science fiction epic. Highly recommended, but I suggest reading Hidden Empire before beginning Veiled Alliances.

2.0 out of 5 stars Comic Book, January 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I recently read all seven novels of the Saga of Seven Suns and came across this title thinking it was a prequel to the original stories. I was surprised to receive a comic book! A very quick read, and nothing new learnt about the main story line. Buy it for completeness of the collection, but don't expect an interesting or riveting reading experience. Maybe I missed the fine print on the amazon product description page, but it was not mentioned anywhere that it was a comic book.

Waste of money. Web site did not indicate this was a comic book rather than a a full story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great prequel, April 25, 2009
Star Wars has given Prequels a bad name, but Veiled Alliances proves that they can be good. This look at the Saga helps explain how things came to be exactly how they are, providing an interesting plot to go alongside the beautiful illustrations.

Recommended for anyone who's read any of the Saga books.

My husband requested this title for a Christmas gift. Neither he nor I realized the item is a COMIC BOOK. Our mistake! We returned it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love Dune you'll probably love this series, June 4, 2008
I started reading Kevin J Anderson's Saga of the seven suns series when i was waiting for some of the newer Dune books by Kevin J and Brian Herbert to be released. I LOVE this series. As usual, war and conflict have tied various worlds together in conflict. And there's that touch of love story that adds a special touch to sci-fi novels. You can see style similarities between this and the Machine Crusades books earlier in the Newer Dune series. The characters are always well written, and the story line engaging. Always entertaining, it's hard to put these books down.

3.0 out of 5 stars Saga of Seven Suns minus Four, August 14, 2005

The artwork was exceptional, but the story line didn't have the same detail that Anderson provides in his novels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, if short, February 28, 2004
This review is from: The Saga of Seven Suns: Veiled Alliances (Hardcover)
While I thought this should have shown more Ildiran kiths (I was really interested in the Singers), this is an interesting prequel, that gives alot of very interesting information. I hope KJA does more.
