About the Artist

The German Power Metal-gods Rebellion from Frankfurt made their first and heavy impact on the music scene in 2002 with their debut album, "Shakespeare's Macbeth - A Tragedy In Steel", a fascinating transposition of the famous play by the English author William Shakespeare. A very ambitious goal indeed but having the two Ex Grave Digger musicians Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Goettlich (bass) on the stirring wheel - the duo was also responsible for the most successful Grave Digger release "Tunes Of War" - Rebellion proves everything a true Metal-fan needs - huge melodies, rough guitars and a fi rst-class lyrical concept. The duo is supported by former Warhead guitarist Bjoern Eilen, vocalist Michael Seifert and drummer Gerd Luecking - all of them are masters of their genre.

After several tours with Running Wild and U.D.O. as well as some great festival-shows all over Europe the band decided to work on their third album. Having just done a sheer perfect "True Metal-album", Tomi Goettlich caught interest in the glorious Viking Saga and digged deep in history books. With "Sagas Of Iceland" Rebellion digs out the historical facts behind the romantic facade of Viking-history, based upon the sources of the world-famous "Heimskringla". This saga-collection from Iceland delivers all a Metal-concept-album needs: Heroes and their deeds! That all these things have really happened is another bonus that embodies even more fascination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood-soaked history at it's best, April 28, 2008

From a musical, mythological, & historical perspective, this is some of the best viking metal out there. After listening to this album it's hard not to be nostalgic about the era in which the vikings made a name for themselves.

Musically, I would compare this band to iced earth...plenty of growls, but the vocalist is also capable of a wide range of melodic screams.

I also highly recommend Miklagard, and anything by Doomsword.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!!!, May 19, 2009
This review is from: Sagas of Iceland (Audio CD)
Man oh man what can I say about this? It's another top notch release from Rebellion about Vikings! The music is thunderous metal yet catchy and the vocals are superb! If I understood right then this is part of a trilogy the German band are doing about the Vikings. Can't wait for the third release and would DEFINITELY recommend any Rebellion cd to the metal masses!
