Sarah is cajoled into spending her vacation with a close friend at the Bar X, a ranch supported by dudes who participate in activities. An unwilling rider, Sarah, is fascinated by the concept of cowboys and western songs she recalls from her childhood. Her friend encourages her to think in terms of a western movie to the point of being a cowgirl's sweetheart. No way encouraged by the manager, she becomes enamored of a handsome ranch hand and unexpectedly holds the horses in a different regard when he helps her to ride. While exploring the sagebrush hills on her own she appreciates the wide open spaces and in her walks discovers child abuse. She finds herself tangled in the web of mystery where street boys from a neighboring ranch take matters into their own hands and steal from the Bar X. Sarah recovers the property and reveals a more onerous crime. The men involved do not take that lightly and retaliate against the ranch owner. Sarah is slashed by an intruder's knife in the rescue of her new-found love.

About the Author

1) I wrote/edited research documents for a contract research firm for twenty years about the desert habitat. I write daily for three websites and write a quarterly newsletter for a non-profit organization, (distributed and acclaimed by several hundred readers). 2) I keep a daily personal journal that documents activities, travels, interests, philosophy, and ideology. 3) My present home of 40 years is in the sagebrush/grassland area of eastern Washington state. I teach natural science at a National Wildlife Refuge during each school year and am a docent at the McNary Environmental Education Center. I serve on the Richland City Library Board. I operate a hand-and-rod puppet at elementary schools to illustrate various disabilities and how each individual wants to be counted in no matter what problems each must overcome. I garden, knit, crochet, and work toward a healthier environment.
