There are three basic flavors to this that surprisingly work so well together. The box has eighteen 1.5oz snack packages. While I wish they were 2oz, it really is a nice size to cure the snack hunger.
The only con I would give to theses is the packaging. There is a little cut at the top that makes it easy to open them. You are supposed to pull down vertically and then toward the edge, which will take out the corner. Unfortunately, if you do it right, the hole isn't big enough for the nuts to come out. If you do it wrong you make a hire hole down the whole side and have the pack falls all over the place.
But seriously, this is such a minor issue that you just need to be a little careful before you just rip the pack open. And in no way would I say this affects my review of this as a whole.
About the quantity. While I would like a little more, I have really found that it is a very convenient size package to carry around. They slip nicely into any type of bag or pocket and can be eaten with out getting your hand all sticky or crumbs everywhere.
The other benefit these have is they are a much healthier option then candy, cookies, chips, etc. Even better though, when you eat them you never feel like you are just eating nuts. They really taste like a premium treat. While different people may have different opinions about if these are a "healthy" snack, I am stating that they are a better choice then a bag of chips or candy.
Lastly the price. Currently, Amazon sells them for about $22 for a box of 18. This works out to about $1.20 per pack. This isn't bad if you think of what they are and compare them to something like M&Ms...Read more ›
However, over the period of about three weeks or so – eating one every two or three days – my taste buds got over the “excitement” of this new kind of sweet & salty flavour combination. I only just “like” it now, versus when I first tired it – the first time – I wasn’t quite sure what to think, I actually thought it was just…”different,” but the second time and then on for a while, I was on the edge of “loving” it. So, in all reality, after the “excitement” of this new(er) item, I just think they are okay.
Now, it’s not as if I WOULDN’T recommend/suggest, but I’m not going to advocate for it – for lack of a better term. I WOULD give some cautionary thoughts, though.
1. While not tasting exuberantly sweet, there still is enough of a sugary taste to where I wouldn’t recommend eating this product for the greater part of the morning, ESPECIALLY on an empty stomach or with having eating very little.
1a.Thus, and though I’m not diabetic, I would not suggest this to someone as a go-to snack, unless (but I still am hesitant) they are VERY diabetic (i.e. not pre-diabetic or not sure but going to eat like that, etc.), more so for Type 1.
1b. If planning on eating this as a snack, I wouldn’t recommend eating the full package often (i.e.Read more ›
The packaging of the Sahale snacks is beautiful. Even though I know this is not eco friendly packaging, it looks the part. Unfortunately there is just no way to package a snack in recyclable materials that will maintain freshness and flavor. Sahale has a package that is a nearly perfect barrier - I cannot smell vanilla or pomegranate before these are opened. There is just enough air inside the package to cushion the nuts during transport. The package tears open along the length. At first I hated this idea, in the end the open package makes a nice cup that is easy to use. Yeah, a great package.
I happen to love the flavor of these cashews; they are a sweet indulgent snack. I wouldn't think of trying to improve the nearly perfect flavor of a cashew.
With a deeper look at the nutrition label and ingredients, there is reason to pause. To start with, this is a high fat food, and not the good kind. Each pouch packs 22% of the daily allowance of fat, or 14 grams; of which 13% or 2.5 grams is saturated fat. There isn't anything Sahale can do about the fat, that is exactly what you get from plain cashews. Interestingly the calorie count is no higher than a serving of cashews, 210 calories.
Ah things go stupid with the ingredients. From the label, I fully expected dried pomegranates in this mix. Nope, I was dead wrong. Instead the mix is dried apples with pomegranate juice concentrate. Aw, that is just silly. There is some pomegranate in the mix, but it is listed long after sea salt - we're talking small amounts.
Each cashew is a cluster of sugar, salt, and dried pomegranate flavored apple. Easy to eat and holds together surprisingly well.
All things considered, I still love this snack. There is a good clean vanilla flavor. What pomegranate flavor is there provides a bit of tartness. A good snack in moderation.
