Product Description

About the Brand

August, 2003. Summit of Mt. Rainier. Another climb; more bad snacks along the trail. The next day we were in the kitchen and began narrowing in on our nut blend recipes.
Josh Schroeter and Edmond Sanctis, co-founders of Seattle-based Sahale Snacks, developed their initial product line of premium nut blends beginning in the summer of 2003, after they returned from climbing Mt. Rainier in Washington State. "Overloaded on uninspired trail mix and stale bin nuts, we were motivated to create a natural and healthy snack that tasted like great food," they said. "We used tree nuts as the basis of the blends and tested hundreds of recipes, combining natural and organic ingredients. In January 2004, we hit the market with four all-natural snacks with unique regional ingredients and spices, including Moroccan harissa, naturally dried papaya, and organic balsamic vinegar."

"We stick to a simple idea: use only whole foods in their natural form, avoid processed and artificial ingredients, add 'culinary magic,' and produce great-tasting, nutritious snacks."

Sahale Snack's Mission

At Sahale Snacks, our business is not just about the bottom line. We're passionate about our products, our people, our customers, and the communities we live in. Our mission is summarized in our Three Basic Principles:

  • Snack Better: Make incredibly great tasting and healthy snack foods for busy people
  • Work Better: Create a positive workplace where diverse and motivated employees feel energized and rewarded

I understand the 5th flavor (which I can't eat) is very good as well.

The pecans are so flavorful and tender, and the cranberries so tart yet sweet, this is quite an addicting combination!

I really like Ksar (with the pistachios) and the Valdosta (with the almonds).

Before stumbling upon this brand I struggled to find a satisfying snack for the afternoon. Some bored me after a couple of weeks, others were not fulfilling. Sahale has created a product that covers both of these points, since the flavors used are striking and half a pouch (this is the serving size) is enough to make the hunger go away. On top of that, they are a great healthy option, since their fat content comes in its majority from unsaturated fats and they are low sodium.

The option of having five different combinations of flavors also helps with the "not getting bored" part. Although some combinations are better than others, there is only one that I did not enjoy. Here are my comments on the five varieties from best to worst:

Sing Buri - The combination of cashews and peanuts with the pineapple works extremely well. They have a little kick but they are not too spicy.

Soledad - I tried this blend before buying the variety pack and it was what prompted me to look further into Sahale's products. The moment I saw on the pouch that the almond blend included dates and balsamic vinegar, I could not resist. The red pepper gives this combination a pretty significant touch of spiciness, making it the hottest one of the bunch.

Valdosta - This is the blend I expected the least from, since I am not a big pecan fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. The cranberries and orange zest bring forward the best in the nuts and provide a much welcomed sweetness.

Ksar - Pistachios and figs sounds like an awkward combination, but it is better than one may think. Again, there is some heat from the harissa, but it is kept at reasonable levels.

Socorro - I love macadamia nuts, but they do not combine well with mango and papaya.

I discovered these nut blends when Costco carried the large bag of Valdosta Blend. Being a nut lover, the combination of pecan/pepper/cranberry sounded like a different twist, probably good on a salad. Boy howdy! They are great on salad, but are perfect straight out of the bag as well! Yummy! Yes, they are spicy. Yes, they are different. Don't be afraid of the spices...they add a whole new twist on a boring chicken dish or plain salad. Enjoy.

These are tasty, wholesome snacks that are different from what you usually find. Their handy pouches can be stashed in your bag and/or car, for times you are out running errands and need something to eat. They would also be good as salad toppings.

I enjoyed the variety pack. I like intense flavors, and didn't find any of them to be very strong. I prefer foods that are spicier, but I realize that most people don't. If you like "exotic" foods, you will probably enjoy these, but if you are a picky eater, you may not. The most popular - Valdosta (pecans and sweet cranberries) is the most (American) mainstream of the different combinations.

I love these snacks, especially the Valdosta blend. The others are good, but lack the crunchy punch of the Valdosta. It's a great snack or salad topper. Delicious and good for you!

The Sahale snacks were tasty. They were nicely packaged, but the quantity was very little.

If you love nut mixes as much as I do, you are in for quite a treat! Sahale Snacks gourmet nut blends are healthy and all-natural, without sacrificing even a hint flavor. The unique blends of nuts, spices, seeds, and fruits will have you licking the bag to get to every last crumb. Each of these 5 novel combination was inspired by delicious cuisines around the world.

The Varieties:

* Valdosta Pecans:
Black-peppered pecans, sweet cranberries and orange zest. Reminiscent of the classic American south. Upon comparison, I thought this pack would be the my least favorite of the group. And was I ever pleasantly surprised! The pecans are so flavorful and tender, and the cranberries so tart yet sweet, this is quite an addicting combination!

*Ksar Pistachios:
Pistachios, pepitas (Squash seeds), sweet figs and honey, peppery Moroccan harissa. I love this sharp and zesty combination of sweet (from the figs and honey), peppery Moroccan harissa, and of course the savory pistachios give it the perfect finish.

*Sing Buri Cashews:
Cashews, peanuts, sesame seeds, pineapple, lemongrass, and chinese chili. This mix is fragrant and draws its inspiration from the aromatic cuisine of Thailand. The kick from the chinese chili mixed with the sweet dried pineapple complement each other perfectly. And I usually HATE pineapple with a passion. But not here!

* Soledad Almonds:
A delightful Mediterranean blend of almonds, sun-dried apples, flax seeds, balsamic vinegar, a little bit of date, and hint of cayenne pepper for kick. The dates are soft and rich, the balsamic-drizzled almonds are

* Socorro Macadamias:
I saved the best for last!

These were a pleasant suprise. I had never even tried some of the spices in this sample pack. The two ounce pack is just about the correct size for snacking. It also helps that if you like one, the sample pack has a twin. If one variety turns you off, oh well. Not too salty or sweet or peppery. Just right.
I really like Ksar (with the pistachios) and the Valdosta (with the almonds).
